    Web Application Developer - TREE Program

    Reporting to Principle Investigator, the Web Application Developer will be responsible for conducting a project to develop an electronic system to train and track an effective HIV/AIDS healthcare workforce in Kenya.

    The goal of this project is to deliver a standardized HIV/AIDS curriculum that is widely accessible through an interactive e-learning platform, and to link this platform with the Training System Monitoring and Reporting Tool (TrainSMART) education tracking program in an effort to coordinate the training and tracking of healthcare workers in HIV/AIDS in Kenya.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Use open-source technologies to enhance TrainSMART and Moodle, specifically development in PHP and MySQL.
    • Review existing codebases to assure familiarity with TrainSMART data model and functional architecture.
    • Perform direct development and management of reliable and secure environments for production deployments, including the use of virtual machines, openVPN, SSH, etc.
    • Establish development environment for collaboration on TrainSMART development using selected frameworks and tools.
    • Implement bug fixes for TrainSMART, Moodle, and relevant intermediate systems.
    • Perform testing of bug fixes and feature enhancements.
    • Assist with developing technical documentation, as needed.
    • Provide regular reporting and demonstrations on progress with assigned software development tasks to colleagues.
    • Interface with international team members to assure appropriate functional specifications for software.

    Desired Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
    • Broad knowledge of web / Internet standards, hardware and software technologies
    • Experience in relational database technologies such as: MYSQL, Postgres, MSSQL or equivalent
    • Experience working with distributed revision control systems such as Subversion (SVN)
    • Demonstrated ability to resolve technical problems in an independent manner
    • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Ability to work in a team situation with both local and remote members
    • Flexibility in schedule to accommodate collaboration with partners in international time zones
    • Experience using and configuring Learning Management Systems such as Moodle.
    • Experience working in health informatics or a related field
    • Experience with learning data such as Tin Can (xAPI) and SCORM

    Instructional Design E-Learning Specialist - TREE Program

    Reporting to Principle Investigator, this position will assist in the adaptation of an in-service curriculum for HIV care providers to an e-learning format for use in national service training.

     

     

    The Specialist will be tasked with creating / improving instructional design elements of course materials including the National HIV Integrated Training Course (NHITC) materials, and will work with identified experts to adapt existing training materials into interactive e-learning formats to be delivered in an e-learning platform.

    The Specialist will work in collaboration with an E-Learning Lead to ensure that content is consistent with established competencies, appropriate to student learning needs, uses appropriate training methodologies, and conforms to best practices in online learning.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Developing storyboards and content worksheets for e-learning courses.
    • Analyzing existing training materials to adapt trainings using best practices in adult learning and online learning.
    • Creating appropriate learning activities, including assesments and examiniations, based existing course material and learning objectives.
    • Supporting the capture of content audio narration from experts and using software tools to edit and synchronize recorded audio.
    • Identifiying existing learning resources to include in courses.
    • Assembling e-learning content into a learning management system (LMS).
    • Providing technical support to students in online courses.
    • Assisting faculty and subject matter experts in adapting learning content for e-learning formats.
    • Assessing and providing feedback to development team on obstacles and opportunities for e-learning in the Kenyan context

    Desired Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
    • 2-3 years experience in adapting curriculum to e-learning formats.
    • Experience with a variety of e-learning formats and methodologies.
    • Familiarity with basic audio and video editing.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Flexibility in schedule to accommodate collaboration with partners in international time zones
    • Experience with e-learning authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline.
    • Experience using and configuring Learning Management Systems such as Moodle.
    • Experience with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
    • Experience with developing training material for health care professionals, specifically relating to HIV and other infectious diseases.

    Program Driver

    As the program driver you will ensure program vehicles and motorbike are well maintained, serviced in a timely manner and that proper documentation is maintained.
     

    Key Responsibilities:
     

    Transport

    • Keep and update the transport log for program vehicles including the motorbike every day.
    • Update program administrator on any incidents or accidents immediately they happen.
    • Responsible for timely transportation of specimens in consultation with the program administrator and the lab personnel.
    • Responsible to picking and dropping off the PI and program visitors as directed by the program administrator.

    Vehicle Maintenance

    • Ensure that all program vehicles are always fueled, well maintained, safely parked and secure.
    • Ensure the program vehicles are serviced in a timely manner and the insurance covers and gates are up to date.

    Administrative Duties

    • Pick up supplies from the office to the clinic as directed by the program administrator.
    • Pick Invoices from suppliers, post office etc.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by administrator, or principal investigator.

    Requirements:

    • Driving license which MUST include motorcycle riding. If the driver’s license is not stamped for motorcycles (BCEFG) we will not consider your application.
    • 1 year driving experience and 6 months continuous riding of a motorcycle.
    • A professional certificate in any field and KCSE Certificate.
    • Certificate of good conduct.
    • Vehicle mechanical knowledge.
    • Effective fleet management and defensive diving course will be added advantage.
    • Candidates should have excellent communication skills as well as customer service and flexible in work assignments.
