Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Operations Officer is responsible for shaping, developing and institutionalizing all elements of Mr. Green Africa Operations.

Your Essential Capabilities:

• At least 3 years’ experience running an operations team which has included rigorous supply chain knowledge in African markets, preferably last mile distribution models
• Excellent stakeholder-facing skills and an effective communicate with an ability to solve stakeholder problems efficiently and creatively where necessary.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to create and manage a plan for delivery and day-to-day running of operational elements
• Able to effectively lead and get the most out of the operations team

Desirable Experience:

• Previous experience in fast moving operational leadership, preferably in a supply chain/logistics related business with complex operation environments
• Knowledge of or an interest in commodity trading or experience in a Recycling Industry or Social Enterprise context.
• Team management within an early stage Start-up environment, being accountable for a personal and team targets/budgets
• However, raw talent, motivation and willing to learn can compensate some lack of experience

The Role:

The role comprises of eight core elements;

• Supplier Management Operations: Overviewing the process of the formalization of the informal supplier base, developing and institutionalizing supplier loyalty at scale
• Logistics Operations: Managing internal and externally outsourced logistic operations capabilities, ensuring appropriate governance and ensuring operational readiness for significant operational growth.
• Production Operations: Overviewing production schedules, capacity management, enhancing controls & quality management and administering & improving company production processes and ensuring operational readiness for significant production output aligned with new machinery.
• Operational Risk Management: Maintaining appropriate levels of operational risk and driving to implement changes to manage this risk. Solid grasp of themes such as Stock Exposure, Cash Reconciliations, Data Protection and Information Security.
• Off-Taker Management Operations: shaping, developing and industrializing the off-take market locally as well as internationally.
• Operational Improvement: Continuous improvement of the Mr. Green Africa operation end to end processes. Ownership (definition and reporting) of operations KPIs. Setting targets for operations and working across the firm to deliver to them.
• Change Management: Ensuring the operational readiness (supplier support, policy and process definitions) for all Mr. Green Africa initiatives and product features
• Leadership: Coaching and training operations team members. Inspire and continue to build the operations team to deliver excellent quality and believe in what Mr. Green Africa will achieve.

Your Profile:

• A strong knowledge of how operations should be done and a desire to be the master of your own destiny to shape an operations environment successfully
• Ideal candidate will have worked at a managerial level in an emerging market, ideally in a successful pre-growth stage start-up or consulting business with hands on experience in end to end supply chain operations and a proven track record of implementing change
• Not afraid to try things or to fail; an entrepreneurial mindset and some experience in a fast pace start-up environment would be a bonus
• Take pride in your work and enjoy working with people
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Have a naturally curious mindset with a hunger to pick up new skills
• Confident working with data and people to gain insight into issues and opportunities
• Be polite, positive, and have a sense of humor
• Understand financial and/or technical concepts, and a fast learner

• Competitive base Salary with an option to equity participation
