    Study Coordinator

    Job Description

    We seek to recruit a Study Coordinator for our research team based in Homa Bay and Kisumu. The Study coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all daily study operations in Homa Bay and Kisumu,including supervising study personnel,maintaining up-to-date study protocols and approvals, and liaising with key stakeholders, both locally and internationally.S/he will must be self-directed, working with minimal supervision, and must be committed to providing services and care for vulnerable populations, s/he will report to the Study Manager and Principal Investigator. This Position will be based in Kisumu.

    Specific duties and responsibilities:

    • Coordinate the development of the study protocol and tools.
    • Training staff at study sites.
    • Ensure necessary local ethics review board approvals and renewals are obtained for the study and managing study ethics and human subject protection.
    • Participate in database development and management.
    • Coordinate all meetings required for the success of the study.
    • Ensure that necessary supplies/materials are in stock for study implementation.
    • Serve as the liaison between the study team, the study Principal Investigator (PI) and collaborators.
    • Oversight of study implementation at study sites.
    • Coordinate and participate in the data analysis and report writing activities.
    • Preparation of study research reports.
    • Oversight of study advisory board (CAB) and safety monitoring board (SMB).

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MBChB or equivalent). At least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role preferably in a health sector or any other related field.
    • Prior experience as a research Study Coordinator or Assistant Study Coordinator – mandatory.
    • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practioners and Dentists Board.
    • Certification in Human Subjects Protection and Good Clinical Practice.
    • Experience with HIV research, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and HIV testing and counseling (HTC) programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, coordinate, and accomplish research activities.
    • Strong analytic, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a team environment.
    • Ability to maintain flexible work hours, including occasional nights and weekends, in order to interface with key and priority populations and international partners.
    • Familiarity with smart phone technology for data collection, including ODK.
    • Attention to detail and good work ethic.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Respectful, punctual, hardworking, and conscientious.
    • Responsive to multiple communication modalities with international team members.
    • Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team.
    • Experience working with key and priority populations.

    Must have legal authorization to work in Kenya.

    Senior Director, Country Programs

    This position can be located in any existing PATH office.

    PATH is recruiting a Director of Country Programs to provide leadership to its country directors and oversee the development of country and/or regional business pipelines. This position is accountable for project execution and relationship management in the countries where PATH works.

    Primary responsibilities:

    • Provide leadership across the division to ensure timely and prudent decision-making, effective and efficient collaboration among matrixed teams, and best management practices.
    • Lead and manage country directors with input from peers, including hiring, onboarding, managing performance, facilitating conflict resolution, coaching to develop talent, and serving as interim country director when needed.
    • Provide thought leadership on innovative strategies to partner with governments and other stakeholders that create new opportunities and increase PATH’s impact.
    • Model PATH’s values and people philosophy.
    • Develop (and help country teams also develop) sustainable relationships with donors, partners and governments to increase long-term impact.
    • Highlight PATH’s contributions and impact through managing media and public relations internationally in collaboration with PATH’s communication experts and country and health area teams.
    • Work with PATH leadership to effectively manage crises or conflicts at country level.
    • Represent country program needs and help teams across all divisions better understand the country context.
    • Ensure compliance and quality project execution; conduct review of proposals and key deliverables from country perspective and ensure effective project start-up.
    • Facilitate systematic country portfolio reviews for senior leadership.
    • Assess the evolving environment within global health to continually assess and recommend investment in new geographies or retraction.
    • Inform the organizational strategy on local entities and oversee the establishment of new entities.
    • Support country directors in execution of projects by ensuring early identification and resolving compliance and/or execution challenges.
    • Represent PATH with global and in-country donors, governments and partners and support country directors.

    Required Experience

    • A minimum of 15 years of experience with progressive responsibility leading and managing global health programs in Asia and/or Africa.
    • Advanced degree in science, public health or related field.
    • Proven track record developing strong leaders and effectively managing performance.
    • Demonstrated success working effectively in a matrixed organization and managing large teams, preferably across multiple geographies.
    • Proven business acumen, including experience in strategy development, implementing complex development projects, budgeting and financial management, compliance and business operations.
    • Prior experience living and/or working in low income countries.
    • Demonstrated success resolving conflict and working across cultures.
    • Experience working in global health, including partnering with key stakeholders, fundraising with diverse donors, and designing, implementing, and evaluating global health programs preferred.
    • Experience working with the private sector to develop public/private partnerships to advance public health programs preferred.
    • Legal authorization to work in the country where hired preferred.
    • 40% international travel is anticipated; potentially more based on post location.

    Senior Nutrition Program Officer

    We seek to recruit a Senior Nutrition Program Officer who will establish systems for the increase of access to human milk banks, support Partnership building and networking, coordinate Project implementation and deliverables, support Advocacy and communication work on human milk banking, support operations research and other related assessments. The Program Officer will also work in close collaboration with PATH’s core human milk banking team, as well as in-country technical experts, implementation partners and policy makers. This position is based in Nairobi.

    Specific duties and responsibilities

    Coordinate Project implementation and deliverables

    • Develop high level of technical competency in the field of human milk banking, neonatal nutrition, and systems strengthening for integrated essential newborn care through engagement with technical leaders and in-depth technical review.
    • Develop work plans integrating it to national infant nutrition and newborn care systems, priorities and policies.
    • Develop activity plans and timelines for the project.
    • Manage work plans, proactively managing changes in project scope and creating contingency plans in a constantly changing environment.
    • Manage budgets and work with finance to team to ensure compliance with donor requirements.
    • Facilitate project management and ensure timely and appropriate implementation of project activities.
    • Coordinate stakeholder and technical committee meetings to plan and review implementation as well as share new information on the project.
    • Support the establishment of the HMB in Pumwani Maternity Hospital within Nairobi, County.
    • Support establishment of quality control systems.
    • Support research and monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
    • Document and disseminate information on all aspects of the project.
    • Draft project reports, presentations and other documentation with project teams.
    • Contribute to documentation of experience and lessons learned.

    Support Partnership building and networking

    • Coordinate partner activities and manage sub grantees.
    • Provide TA to partners where necessary.
    • Manage relationships with the Pumwani Maternity Hospital as well as relevant county and national MOH officials and partners.
    • Facilitate learnings from global technical leaders to foster collaboration and mentorship.
    • Represent Kenya as a global human milk banking team member for PATH, to be viewed as a global leader in this field.

    Establish systems for the increase of access to human milk banks

    • Plan, coordinate and conduct consultative meetings with stakeholders.
    • In consultation with global and national technical and policy, leaders facilitate and lead the revision t of Kenya specific national guidelines and operating procedures for establishment and operation of a human milk bank.
    • Facilitate collaboration with global human milk bank policy and technical leaders, to inform the establishment of a human milk bank in Kenya.
    • Work closely with PATH global human milk banking teams to utilize and adapt existing resources and pilot systems strengthening tools to enhance quality and robust implementation.
    • Facilitate the development of training tools for national and provincial stakeholders and adapt behavior change communication materials as appropriate.
    • Provide communication and information to partners on the processes required for the establishment of the human milk banks.

    Support operations research and other related assessments

    • Work with the research partners and provide the necessary support for the OR.
    • Facilitate meetings with stakeholders.
    • Coordinate the planning and implementation of assessments.

    Support Advocacy and communication work on human milk banking

    • Facilitate the development of communication and advocacy plan.
    • Support the development of communication materials for awareness raising.
    • Coordinate advocacy and awareness meetings and events at the national and county level.

    Identification of new areas of project development

    • Develop strategic plans as well as long-term strategies for the expanding human milk banking activities in Kenya.
    • Work with other sections/projects to see how human milk banking can be integrated into their programming.
    • Contribute to identification of future funding mechanisms and writing of proposals for scaling up human milk banking activities in Kenya.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree and equivalent professional experience.
    • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
    • Minimum seven years of experience and demonstrated skills in designing and implementing child health, nutrition, or development projects with multiple objectives and associated activities.
    • Demonstrated experience of managing milestone-based projects within budget and time constraints.
    • At least three years in a role that involved regular communication with the Kenyan MOH at national, county and/or sub county levels and joint planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities.
    • Robust technical knowledge of maternal and child nutrition is essential.
    • Strong understanding of holistic child development and the role played by responsive caregiving, health, nutrition, early learning, and protection/security in ensuring appropriate development.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with the Kenyan MOH at county and sub county levels and extensive knowledge of the Kenyan health system is essential.
    • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a demonstrated capacity to solve problems with energy, flexibility, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
    • Ability to work with various technologies (computers, mobile phones, etc.) and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including presentation, training, and facilitation skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage several major activities simultaneously, and work in a complex environment with short deadlines.
