    Communications Officer

    Ref/NCK/03/2018:

    Terms: Three (3) year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance

    Position Summary

    The communications officer will support NCK in developing media and communication strategy and will be involved in writing reports, development of briefs, review of documents for publication and offer general technical expertise in regard to communications and media. In addition, s/he, with direct authority of the Registrar /CEO will ensure publications/broadcasts of the essential information relating to NCK work. This will include documentation of case studies and maintaining NCK brand through consistent visual and editorial messaging.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Refine Communications and Visibility Strategies for NCK in line with the communications policy.
    • Develop and regularly update communications and visibility products for the Council
    • Ensure timely and quality development and dissemination of media contents on the website and via other media channels (e.g., social media platforms).
    • Collect and file relevant communications and visibility products, photographs and video clips systematically and report accordingly.
    • Monitor and guide the Council in developing specific communications and visibility materials
    • Take the leading editing role in the Council's newsletter, as well as other Council publications including reports, information summaries, annual reports, policy briefs and promotional materials.
    • Planning and implementing outreach activities and media relations to build strategic partnerships and visibility for the organization
    • Developing effective support networks and positive working relationships with government agencies, NGO's, development partners and community groups.
    • Organizing and conducting public outreach activities, trainings, ensuring positive visibility of the organization and production of social mobilization materials
    • Identify and support the Council's communication and marketing needs to help raise its profile, as well as publicize its mandate, and objectives and activities.
    • Respond to internal information needs.
    • Media monitoring, media liaison and assist in preparing speeches and presentations and maintenance of website
    • Produce multimedia stories.
    • Assist in Organizing Council events and formation of such events as conferences, workshop and seminars.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field from an accredited academic institution
    • Three (3) years' experience in a similar position

    Head Of Department; Education, Research And Examinations

    Ref/NCK/02/2018:

    Terms: Four (4) year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Registrar / CEO, the Head of Department; Education, Research and Examinations will ensure effective regulation of professional standards for Education, licensure Examinations offered by the Council under the Nurses Act and operationalized research functions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide Leadership to the staff and oversee day to day activities of the department;
    • Develop and Implement strategic initiatives for the department in line with NCK strategies;
    • Monitor and Evaluate performance of the staff in the department;
    • Develop and implement of annual departmental budget plans;
    • Oversee and manage the Compliance and regulation of Nurses and Midwifery training as per the Nurses act Cap 257;
    • Develop and review of Nursing & Midwifery education policies, Syllabus, training guidelines and Operational standards;
    • Monitor and Evaluate compliance to Training and accreditation standards of Education.
    • Develop and maintain periodic syllabi review to ensure that curriculum meet the state, regional, national and local health care needs.
    • Manage accreditation of Nursing and Midwifery training institutions;
    • Prepare and update program student handbook(s)
    • Coordinate with training institutions in professional matters of education, examination and research.
    • Coordinate constitution of board of examiners, invigilators and examination coordinators.
    • Coordinate examination setting, moderation, administration, marking, and related activities
    • Identify and implement priority thematic areas for research
    • Advice on issues pertaining to standards of Nurses and Midwives Education and training.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or Midwifery or its equivalent
    • Master’s Degree in Nursing or health related field
    • Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya;
    • Broad experience in teaching, curriculum development and research.
    • 7 years’ professional experience

    Head Of Department; Standards & Compliance

    Ref/NCK/01/2018:

    Terms: Four (4) year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Registrar / CEO, the Head of Department; Standards and Compliance will ensure maintenance of professional standards for persons registered and licensed under the Nurses Act. S/he will support regulation and accreditation of Nursing & Midwifery training institutions

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide Leadership to the staff and oversee day to day activities of the department;
    • Develop and Implement strategic initiatives for the department in line with NCK strategies;
    • Monitor and Evaluate performance of the staff in the department;
    • Develop and implement of annual departmental budget plans;
    • Oversee and manage the enforcement of the provisions of Nurses and Midwifery standards as per the Nurses act Cap 257;
    • Oversee Monitoring and Compliance of standards of Education and Practice by Nursing & Midwifery training institutions and Health Care Facilities;
    • Manage accreditation of Nursing and Midwifery training institutions;
    • Develop and Review of Regulatory tools and Operational standards;
    • Oversee the Inspections of Nursing and Midwifery training Institution and Health care institutions;
    • Manage the Complaints of cases of professional misconduct;
    • Advice on issues pertaining to standards of Nurses and Midwives.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or Midwifery or its equivalent
    • Master’s Degree in Nursing or health related field
    • Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya;
    • Broad experience in Nursing and Health Care Standards and programmes.
    • 7 years’ professional experience
