    Energy Advisor

    Job Description

    The Position

    SNV Kenya is seeking a qualified and result oriented professional to fill the post of “Energy Advisor”. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Advisor will be responsible for identifying and supporting sustainable and profitable energy enterprises in solar, improved cook stoves and fuels. In addition, the advisor will engage a BD approach to raise awareness in regard to alternative fuels to displace firewood use and coordinate alternative fuel processing innovations.

    Responsibilities

    Specific activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Ensuring supply and value chain analyses across several energy access segments in refugee settings;
    • Raising awareness campaigns with local population on health and environmental effects of traditional energy solutions;
    • Offering Business Development Services support to distributors interested to access/penetrate new locations as a market;
    • Contributing to analysis, knowledge and solution development around energy themes of the project and especially up-scaling, sustainability and inclusion of women and youth;
    • Liaising, coordinating, and garnering support from stakeholders (central or local government, other financial service providers, projects, etc);
    • Contributing to project’s Management for Results Framework and system (including evaluation and reporting), in close collaboration with the PM as the M&E responsible officer;
    • Working in close coordination with the rest of the team and undertaking additional assignments as requested by the team leader;

    Qualifications

    Candidate profile

    • Degree in a business related course (economics, business or entrepreneurship). A Master degree will be an added advantage;
    • 7 years’ experience in enterprise development, (special focus on refugee settings and/or supply chains will be an asset);
    • Proven record of accomplishment in capacity building of micro and medium size enterprises development and insight into problems and constraints in stimulating entrepreneurship more so in the rural areas;
    • Skills in training/facilitation of development processes including organization and mobilization of communities;
    • Experience in networking, alliance building and facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes;
    • Knowledge of approaches dealing with gender, social inclusion and empowerment principles.

    Project Manager

    Job Description

    The Position

    SNV Kenya is seeking a qualified and result oriented professional to fill the post of “Project Manager”. Reporting to the Sector Leader, Energy, the Project Manager will join the pool of dedicated project managers in energy and be assigned a project managed from Kakuma.

    The project team consists of 6 staff mainly operating from the SNV Kakuma Offices supporting all regions covered by the project. The team is supported by high level short term back-stopping short-term consultants.

    Responsibilities

    Specific activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Overall coordination and quality implementation of Project activities;
    • Coordination and supervision of project staff
    • Planning, implementation, and monitoring of activity and operational plans and budgets (monthly, quarterly and/or annually as may be required);
    • Promoting commercial approach for clean energy access services through various tailored interventions;
    • Overseeing energy enterprise support to identified clean energy access entrepreneurs
    • Identifying and nurturing the opportunities for collaboration and partnership with other relevant organisations operating in Kakuma and the county Government of Turkana
    • Leading in identification and supporting sustainable innovative financing models that work in the project areas;
    • Ensuring coordination of relevant marketing and promotional events for stoves and solar technologies within the refugee camps and host community
    • Taking lead in designing of mechanisms for motivating the entrepreneurs to perform.
    • Advising relevant organizations and agencies on integration/mainstreaming of clean energy access into their activities
    • Collaboration with Turkana County Government on access to energy aspects among the host community
    • Conduct and supervise impact monitoring and evaluation activities
    • Provide input for various internal and external donor publications and reports in English
    • Any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications

    Candidate profile

    • Degree and a Master degree in a business related course (economics, business or entrepreneurship.
    • More than 10 years of relevant experience, with business development (special focus on micro- business, energy and supply chains will be an asset) preferably at project management/ coordination level
    • Proven track record in capacity building, experience in micro and medium size enterprise development and insight into problems and constraints in stimulating entrepreneurship
    • Experience in networking, alliance building and facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes, product development, organizational learning and institutional change processes
    • Strong knowledge of the entrepreneurship sector in Kenya, energy entrepreneurship will be an added advantage.
    • Strong applied analytic skills are required.
    • Experience in economic development, energy or climate is an added advantage
    • Knowledge of approaches dealing with gender, social inclusion and empowerment principles

    WASH Advisor

    Job Description

    The Position

    SNV Kenya is seeking a qualified and result oriented professional to fill the post of “WASH Advisor”. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Advisor will be the technical advisor (TA) to the project team, private sector partners and community on water supply management and multi-use and supply water solutions.

    Responsibilities

    Specific activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Carrying out baseline analysis of water supply and management within the project area;
    • Coordinating environmental studies
    • Designing solutions to integrate innovative energy solutions with water solutions
    • Driving contractual engagements with key companies/water service providers;
    • Ensuring planning and design analysis of water management solutions
    • Contributing to analysis, knowledge and solution development around agriculture themes of the project and especially up-scaling, sustainability and inclusion of women and youth;
    • Liaising, coordinating, and garnering support from stakeholders (central or local government, other financial service providers, projects, etc);
    • Contributing to project’s Management for Results Framework and system (including evaluation and reporting), in close collaboration with the PM as the M&E responsible officer;

    Access to Finance Advisor

    Job Description

    The Position

    SNV Kenya is seeking a qualified and result oriented professional to fill the post of “Access to Finance Advisor”. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Advisor will serve as a member of the project team and will work as a Technical Advisor (TA) with a private partner to design, popularise and implement a digital wallet (an integrated financing mechanism) to initiate digitalisation of financial transactions. The advisor will collaborate closely with CBIs and vulnerable groups to avail agreed upon financial inclusion solutions to them.

    Responsibilities

    Specific activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Evaluation of consumer financing environment exercise(s);
    • Ensuring focused assessment of financing for vulnerable groups ;
    • Community outreach and awareness raising on financing mechanisms and social inclusion;
    • Working as a technical advisor (TA) to all project team members on optimizing financing in all project interventions;
