Job Purpose
Under the general supervision of a Physician, perform routine clinical laboratory tests per prescribed procedures and acceptable practice pertaining to HIV/AIDS drugs for the site
Job duties
Technical Support
· Manage laboratory equipment in serviceable condition at all times inventory and ensure good store keeping for pharmacy drugs
· Prepare the laboratory equipment and specimen for tests as necessary
· Collect patients specimen for laboratory tests and analysis in the prescribed manner ensuring safe disposal of such specimen
· Analyze and electronically record test results in order to issue reports for use by the physician
· Maintain an accurate database of test carried out
· Develop, review and regularly update the standard operating procedures manual for administration of laboratory tests
· Member of the health facility drugs and therapeutics committee (TDC).
· Together with other TDC members, review and regularly update the health facility on medicines.
· Give the ART clinical team updates on the availability of tests
· Perform any reasonable work related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
· Member of the Laboratory and CCC team
Training and mentorship
· Orientate new laboratory staff members
· Following appropriate education participate in counseling of patients before/during/after carrying out laboratory tests.
Reports
· Reports to the facility in charge and PACT ENDELEZA Laboratory Services Advisor.
· Works in collaboration and guidance of the PACT ENDELEZA Laboratory team.
· Prepare site monthly Laboratory reports.
Academic Qualifications:
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science Technology
Higher National Diploma/Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Science Technology an added advantage
Professional Qualifications
Registration with Medical Laboratory Technologist and Technicians Board
Current Membership/Practicing License from the KMLTTB
Experience:
At least 3 years relevant experience
Skills & Attributes
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
· Ability to prepare and maintain electronic records, keying in reports and responding to both oral
and written enquiries.
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical and clinic staff and the public.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
