    Water and Irrigation Technician

    Duty Station:Kakuma, Kenya

    Purpose of the role:

    To play a central role in supporting SPARK Project to implement efficient and effective water and irrigation facilities within a broad based entrepreneurial mind-set and a new set of business development ideas among the PoCs in Kakuma Refugee Camp. This will involve working with other project officers, partner organizations and PoC community in the camp.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Coordination and implementation of water and irrigation activities in the refugee camp.
    • Ensure the conservation of water by dripping pipes to water gardens and farms.
    • Ensure that the drip irrigation method is running smoothly and efficiently
    • Prepare Bill of Quantities on the materials needed
    • Install the drip irrigation system in the farm or garden or wherever needed
    • Advice and plan for the proper drip irrigation systems to ensure for the water conservation
    • Do the common work such as repairing PVC pipes, valves and sprinkler heads and others
    • He or she has to do the jobs such as installation of pumps when required.
    • Support to carry out field surveys - Geospatial survey, Spate irrigation on farms and in gardens.
    • Study the area first and then design and make the drip irrigation system that will best suit the area.
    • Provide help in improving the water and soil conservation methods in the farm to the farmersTeach the farmers on the various types of drip irrigations and the various methods and procedures
    • Collect the information and related data that will help farmers irrigate their farms.
    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • Diploma/ Certificate/ Degree in Agriculture, Water or Engineering related studies
    • Minimum three years’ work experience
    • Good understanding of soils and water conservation and understanding of irrigation equipment
    • Physical ability and good health
    SKILLS & COMPETENCES
    • Excellent communicational skills (written and spoken)
    • Skilled in influencing and obtaining cooperation of individuals;
    • Team-work and participation
    • Level of self-supervision and ability to take initiative
    • Degree of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Good report-writing writing and reporting skill
    • INGO experience and understanding of humanitarian sector
    • Commitment to and understanding of AAH-I’s vision, mission, and values.
