    Principal Education for Sustainable Development Officer

    GRADE E5 - REF: HR/5/2017

    An officer at this level will be responsible to the Deputy Director Environmental Education and Information.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Specific duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to;

    1. Ensuring integration of education for sustainable development (ESD) into formal and non-formal education;
    2. Coordinating capacity building and ensuring optimum participation of the Kenyan public in ESD activities;
    3. Promoting Public Awareness on ESD policy through non-formal education, public information and campaigns; 
    4. Ensuring development of ESD, information, education and communication (IEC) material; 
    5. Disseminating ESD information through manuals, codes and articles;
    6. Preparing exhibitions on ESD and other environmental best practices
    7. Liaising with other lead agencies to ensure ESD policy is implemented
    8. Ensuring ESD material is available in the library for users
    9. Exchanging ESD information with national and international agencies and institutions;

    Requirements for appointment

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Environmental Education, Environmental Law; Environmental Sciences; Education; Natural Resource Management; Sociology, community development, or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution; ‘
    1. Masters Degree in any of the following fields: Environmental Education, Environmental Law; Environmental Sciences; Education; Natural Resource Management; Sociology; community development; or any other relevant qualifications from a recognized institution;
    1. Environmental education or education for sustainable development course either as stand alone or as a unit in a degree programme
    1. Nine (9) years relevant experience in the field of Environment
    1. Management/administration course from a recognized institution

    • Excellent communication skills
    • Computer application skills
    • Planning & Coordination skills

    All the above positions are on permanent and pensionable terms of service except Director, Environmental Services which will be on a three years renewable contract.
