    WASH strategist

    This role will lead in the design and implementation of Oxfam in Kenya’s humanitarian and long term WASH programming - piloting innovative programme approaches, building partnerships, coalitions and networks and supporting partners to develop organisational capacity to deliver high quality WASH programmes. The job holder will establish and maintain linkages with other thematic areas in the country programme and link with Oxfam campaigns, policy influencing and advocacy teams at a regional and global level. Occasionally, as required by the programme design, the WASH strategist will be called upon to manage contracted programme or project staff. A key area of work will be to fundraise for the programme and to generate and manage knowledge resources through linkages with research and knowledge focused institutions.

    Results driven, creative and a strong networker and relationship manager, the WASH Strategist will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of the country strategy in support of development in Kenya.

    TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE SKILLS

    • Professional/Technical qualifications – Undergraduate/Post Graduate degree in Social Science, Economics, with experience in WASH and public health in the humanitarian context – especially in emergency conditions. Background in engineering is an added advantage.
    • Ability to engage and influence both corporate direction, contributing to and following it as appropriate and the ongoing development of program policy and quality to enhance the impact of Oxfam’s work
    • Assessment, analytical and planning skills, with ability to translate analysis into recommendations for practical action, including proposal development.
    • Proven analytical and conceptual thinking, high level research, project management knowledge and skills and experience using participatory tools and methodologies for assessment, programme identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
    • Good oral and written English skills is essential with Swahili considered an advantage.
    • At least 4 years practical experience in a similar role, in public health and links to appropriate water supply and emergency interventions.
    • Experience in structural Engineering would be considered an advantage.
