JOB SUMMARY & PURPOSE:
Responsible and accountable to the Field Officer, the research intern will form part of the SWS project and will be attached to SWS project sites. S/he is expected to assist in data collection, data analysis and writing of research reports. S/he is also expected to assist the project identify key research areas on WASH in line with project’s strategic objective 4 which aims to foster advocacy and research to enhance accountability and sustainability of the project goal.
Tasks and Responsibilities
R 1: Data Collection and Analysis
Task
Task 1.1 Identify research topics in relation to WASH
Task 1.2 Assist in research tools formulation
Task 1.3 Assists in data collection and data quality assurance
Task 1.4 Assist in data analysis
R 2: Project Activities
Task
Task 2.1 Assist the FO in enhancing linkages at the community level to boost the adoption of safe drinking water and hygiene practices
Task 2.2 Assist FO in ensuring in increasing partners’ knowledge and improve access to safe drinking water using P&G Purifier of Water and hygiene promotion in schools and clinics
Task 2.3 School water quality monitoring and maintenance monitoring
R2: Representation and Coordination
Task
Task 2.1 Represent SWS project in community meetings related to the project
R3: Delegated Duties
Task 3.1 Perform other responsibilities as may be directed by the FO

WORKING CONDITIONS:
90% time in the field and 10% time in the main office/Kisumu office
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Degree in Environmental Health Sciences/Public Health/Statistics.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in health research
Certificate: Research Ethics course will be an added advantage Competencies: Good report-writing skills, data collection and analysis, Computer Literacy
