    Instruction Coach

    Job Objectives:

    • To provide leadership in teacher coaching education activities and provide termly trainings for teachers on how to improve instructional approaches in literacy and numeracy;
    • Actively provide model and mentorship sessions with teacher coaches focusing on enhancement of learning outcomes for the early grader learners;
    • Train teachers on the preparation of effective teaching and learning aids for use in literacy and numeracy lessons, specifically related to the lesson plans and student books;
    • To actively provide model lessons for teachers, which adhere to the lesson plans and which enhance pupil learning and ensures that teachers operate with fidelity to the lesson plans;
    • Check on and assist teachers in areas of proper and effective use of schemes of work, lesson plans, effective and specific teaching aids, supplementary materials and student books;
    • To carry out a minimum of two visits per school per month for purposes of giving on the spot subject intervention assistance;
    • Work and support teachers of all levels of skills to improve instruction as measured by learning outcomes;
    • To organize and facilitate termly professional development sessions for all upper grade teachers and head teachers in assigned schools, 5 days in duration;
    • To organize regular reflection meetings for all upper grade teachers and head teachers in assigned schools(WWW), and to produce and keep a detailed file of the challenges faced by teachers from these meetings;
    • To develop and maintain termly strategic WWW activity projection plans in tandem with the overall programme Work Plan;
    • To actively involve the head teachers’ of WWW schools in the programmes’ planning, implementation, monitoring- evaluation and reporting origination processes;
    • To continuously liaise with the head teacher and upper grade staff, school management committee and community in general of the successful implementation of the programme;
    • To develop and implement actionable guidelines to operationalize the Coaches JD;
    • Engage in other monitoring and evaluation activities as requested by WWW project;
    • Compile and submit to the Senior Coach/Regional Coordinator (WWW), timely statistical and narrative- weekly, monthly, termly and annual programme reports.

    Person specification:
    Knowledge

    Essential:


    • Minimum of two-year college certificate in Education or equivalent with P1 qualifications. Diploma/Degree is an added advantage
    • Minimum of eight years of teaching in lower primary school, with demonstrated skill in teaching early grade literacy and mathematics.

    Experience

    Essential:


    • Knowledge and experience in working in informal settlements; Open minded, good listener with the ability to work well with others, providing
    • Encouragement and constructive feedback as teachers learn new skills;

    Skills

    Essential

    • Basic IT skills such as email, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel;
    • Skilled in supportive observation of teachers and students;
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili;
    • High level of integrity, commitment and professional responsibility
    • Ability to tolerate cultural, ethnic, educational and religious diversity.
    • Enthusiastic and committed to improving education outcomes in non-formal settlements.
    • Willingness to work overtime and ensure that children’s reading and numeracy outcomes are improved

    Scope: Will involve relocation and/or frequent travel to remote/hardship areas within Kenya.

    Salary Circa (Ksh. 68,000) pm plus benefits
