    Information Systems Officer, HSDSA Cluster 1

    We seek to recruit an Information Systems Officer who will be part of a team whose primary responsibilities include designing, planning, implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting PATH’s global infrastructure. This position encompasses the areas of optimizing network and system availability, functionality, security, virtualization, remote access, and performance, plans major system installations and mentor others in diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software and network problems, Facilitate the planning of component and feature upgrades, and plan & participate in scheduled off-hours service outage upgrades. This position will be based in Kisumu.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Install, build, configure and maintain the networking infrastructure in a production datacenter environment that supports an international organization.
    • Promote system reliability and efficiency by creating and implementing network and server standards and operational best-practices; provide technical leadership in design and administration decisions for networking systems. Includes:
      • Server maintenance / security
      • Server standards / including back office standards
      • Virtualization
      • Remote connectivity
      • Security Compliance (help create and enforce system and network security guidelines and procedures)
      • Hardware standards
      • Bios / Firmware Management
      • Virus / Patch Management
      • Change management
    • Design, configure and maintain global network services – helping to design and maintain an optimized experience for PATH’s field offices.
    • Make recommendations and contribute to global infrastructure architecture vision.
    • Facilitate the planning of component and feature upgrades, and plan & participate in scheduled off-hours service outage upgrades.
    • Document system operations processes and procedures including installation and testing of network upgrades, failover, and configuration.
    • Enforce operational network security guidelines and procedures.
    • Provide Tier II and III support as needed – working with defined SLAs.
    • Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company.
    • Provide mentoring to other team members.
    • Schedule for preventive maintenance of all IT equipment and supervise the same.
    • Maintain an up to date IT inventory record of all IT equipment both on- and off-site.
    • Liaise with the ISP to ensure continued availability of the Internet.
    • Liaise with the supervisor on allocation of IT equipment (Desktops, Laptops and Printers) to users.

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • 6 years relevant industry experience with at least five years in similar engineering roles.
    • Extensive experience with virtualization and VPN in an international organization (Citrix experience preferred). Experience with wireless networking technologies, firewalls and/or intrusion detection systems. Experience with TCP/IP, Subnets and routing. Experience with creating and maintaining standards, operational best-practices, and infrastructure architecture design documentation. MSCE, A+, CCNA Wireless certifications preferred.
    • Hands on experience supporting Windows Server 2003/2008, Active Directory, and Exchange 2007.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and proven ability to do root cause analysis.
    • Effective problem solving skills.
    • Strong communication skills
    • Willingness to work in a maturing organization and provide mentoring to other team members.
    • Willingness to provide off-hours support as needed.
    • An advanced degree in IT, software development or related field.
    • Previous experience in working with open-source solutions..
    • Previous experience working in an NGO context preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel. Knowledge of MS Access, ODK or CSPRO is a plus.
    • Skills in managing proper functioning of LAN, Server, the E-mail system and internet connectivity, ensuring that there is software resource availability.
    • Microsoft, Cisco or A+ certification desirable.

    Must currently have legal authorization to work in Kenya.
