COUNTY DIRECTOR, ENVIRONMENT &TOURISM, JOB GROUP "R"

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the County Chief Officer, Environment, Water and Tourism for the administration and coordination of all the activities related to Tourism.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

• Providing Technical advice on all Tourism related matters and Promotion of tourism within the County;
• Formulating, coordinating, Implementing and reviewing tourism development policies, strategies and procedures;
• Coordinating development programmes in the tourism sector;
• Carrying out tourism education, awareness and training;
• Offering advisory and extension services to the tourism sector;
• Enforcement of compliance with the tourism legislation;
• Carrying out tourism research and development;
• Monitoring performance on growth and development of the tourism sector within the County and Implementing departmental performance contracts, appraisal systems;
• Development of by — laws and ensuring that they are In conformity with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA)1999;
• Liaising with other Departments' staff in drafting of legal documents; k) Managing programs and projects and
• Validating technical reports.
• Responsible for development and updating of an Environmental database.

Requirement for Appointment For appointment to this grade, an officer must:

• Have at least ten (10) years relevant work experience three (3) years of which should be in the grade of Assistant Director Tourism/ Assistant Director Environment JG ‘P” and above or in a comparable and relevant position either in the Public Service or Private sector;
• Have a Bachelor's degree in either tourism or Environment related field from a recognized institution;
• Have a Master's Degree in Tourism or Environment related fields from a recognized institution;
• Attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized Institution and
• Have demonstrated professional, technical and administrative competency as reflected in work performance and results.
