    Assistant Manager - Customs Statistics Strategic Reporting

    Grade: KRA 5

    Department: Strategy Innovation & Risk Management (S.I.R.M)

    Division: Research, Knowledge Management & Corporate Planning (R,KM & CP)

    Supervisor: Manager - Customs Statistics

    Job summary:

    Developing data analysis and reporting capabilities and continuously monitoring performance and quality through analysing and reporting KRA’s big data for the sole purpose of informing the decision making process.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Identify and maintain key data sets (summaries) on Customs revenue and related data both from within KRA systems and without (i.e., KNBS, KPA, Treasury, CBK, regulatory bodies, IMF, World Bank, WTO, etc)
    • Undertake comprehensive sectorial analysis (deploying common external tariff classification, Direction of Trade (DoT) analysis, etc), using both quantitative and qualitative analytical methods,
    • Identify and maintain engagement with key external stakeholders based on identified KRA Customs data needs,
    • Engage with the Corporate Data Office (CDO) team to ensure that all external data requirements are adequately provided for - by precisely defining the required data fields, frequency for updates, etc,
    • From sectorial analysis undertaken, identify and propose Customs tax policy measures for consideration during the budget making process,
    • Assist the research section in coming up with both proactive and reactive research areas (based on sectorial analysis), including provision of requisite data
    • Participate in the preparation of the Statistical bulletin, Annual revenue report and Trade reports,
    • Participate in the formulation of strategy to guide in developing Corporate and operational plans.

    Academic and Professional qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Economics or Business related field from a recognized university.
    • Master’s Degree from a recognized university in Statistics and Economics is an added advantage.
    • Computer literacy in relevant computer packages such as Microsoft Office, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or other relevant statistical analysis packages.

    Relevant work experience required

    At least 3 years’ experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis activities (surveys, assessments, monitoring, evaluations, and impact analysis)
