    Community Mobilization Officer

    Background:

    Kenya NiWajibu Wetu (NIWETU) will strengthen Kenyan communities’ and government institutions’ motivation and capacity to take the lead on countering violent extremism (CVE) by building the capacity of and fostering strong relationships among individuals, communities, and civil society and county and national government actors.

    Responsibilities:

    The community mobilization officer is a key member of the program team and will report to the Program Development Officer. She/he will:

    • Support situational analysis and activity development, serving as “eyes and ears” on an as-needed basis in communities in the county.
    • Provide updates and analysis of key developments in targeted thematic areas or geographies.
    • Identify needs and opportunities and provide relevant information to facilitate the program team’s ability to develop activity ideas.
    • Under the direction of the Program Development Officer, develop and maintain relationships with organizations/ actors in key target sectors (e.g. faith organizations, youth groups, women’s organizations, CBOs/local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), media, local government officials, etc.).
    • Develop critical relationships with local partners.
    • Support the monitoring and evaluation team and partners in program monitoring, evaluation and learning by:
      • Support in tracking of partner’s activities – by attending all events in your county;
      • Support partners on activity-level M&E efforts, ensuring quality, reliability, and consistency in data collection efforts using NIWETU M&E templates;
      • Contribute to the review of all partner deliverables and milestones. These deliverables and milestones must be signed off by either the PDO or CMO before submission to Nairobi office and
      • Help identify lessons learned from project implementation and facilitate the incorporation of those lessons into the activity development cycle

    Qualifications:

    • Strong relationships with relevant organizations/ actors in Nairobi county (e.g. youth groups, women’s organizations, CBOs/local NGOs, media, local government officials, etc.).
    • Prior experience with USAID small grants programming preferred (but not required).
    • Strong computer skills (MS Office suite) required.
    • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously under pressure in a stressful environment and with colleagues from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
    • Fluency in written and oral English is required.
