    Education Intern

    Job description

    Hours: 20 hrs/week

    Duration: 10 weeks

    Salary level: Unpaid - for credit

    Summary

    The Education Team at the Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an Education intern to support ongoing projects that further the use of Wikimedia Projects to improve student learning globally.

    This is an opportunity for an exceptional graduate student interested in the fields of education, technology, and development that will mutually benefit the student’s professional learning and contribute to furthering the work of the Education team at the Wikimedia Foundation.

    At the end of the fellowship the student will know:

    • (Community organizing) The benefits and challenges of working with the Wikimedia community.
    • (Volunteer management) How to support online communities in offline programmatic work.
    • (Strategy) The mission/vision of the Wikimedia foundation and how the work of the education team supports that vision while contributing to global education goals worldwide through grassroots community engagement and strategic partnerships.

    The Student Will Be Able To

    • (Advocacy skills) Explain the value of editing Wikimedia projects in an educational context.
    • (Professional skills) Work remotely, manage time effectively in a non-structured work environment, collaborate with a dispersed team.

    We’d Like You To Do These Things

    The primary services and deliverables of this role are to support the ongoing projects of the Education Team.

    Current Projects Include

    The internship manager will work together with the intern and their academic advisor to determine the scope of work based on the student’s interest and the current projects that the education team has prioritized.

    • Education program global mapping exercise.
    • Planning an event that highlights knowledge equity in education for Wikimania.
    • Educational uses of Wikidata linked to learning outcomes around 21st century skills.
    • UNESCO OER Recommendation consultation.

    We’d Like You To Have These Skills

    • High energy for and commitment to the Wikimedia Foundation’s free knowledge mission.
    • Graduate student focusing on education & technology or education & development.
    • Fluent in at least one language other than English.
    • Intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and a desire to tackle challenging problems.
    • The ability to flourish in a highly transparent and collaborative environment and work on a team with diverse demographic and cultural characteristics.

    And it would be even more awesome if you have this:

    • International working experience.
    • Experience working in educational institutions, especially internationally.
    • Experience contributing to Wikimedia projects highly desired.
