    CONSULTANT VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: UN-Habitat, Research and Capacity Development Branch in Nairobi, Global Urban Observatory, Kenya

    DURATION: 3 months

    BACKGROUND

    UN- Habitat established the Global Urban Observatory (GUO) unit under the Research, Capacity Building and Development branch of UN-Habitat as a specialized statistical unit in charge of global monitoring of the Habitat Agenda and other agendas with an urban linkage. GUO is already responding with efficiency to the challenges that the monitoring and reporting of the NUA and SDGs requires. GUO has more than 20 years’ experience in the collection, analysis and production of urban data at the world level and in specific cities. GUO is working to a) Improve the capacity of countries and cities to access relevant information, setting global standards in the design analysis and collection of urban data, and supports the translation of data/information into policy formulation; b) Guiding methodological developments of the urban related indicators and targets used by the international development community to monitor global progress towards implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the SDG on human settlements; c) Improving worldwide urban knowledge base by supporting governments, local authorities and civil societies in the development and application of policy-oriented urban indicators, statistics and other urban information. These functions mainly served through the Cities Prosperity Initiative and the Global Urban Observatory Network (GUO net).

    As part of this work, GUO has developed a number of technical documents including tools and guidelines to be used for capacity building workshops but also as guiding materials for various stakeholders that are involved in monitoring and reporting of SDGs and NUA in countries worldwide. These documents need to be translated in official working languages of the United Nations.

    PURPOSE OF CONSULTANCY

    The purpose of the consultancy is to translate available technical documents from English to French. The translated texts should be delivered in the font type of the original text, size 12, single spacing. **

    TASKS

    • The Consultant/translator will translate with the best quality standard, the documents above from English into French.
    • The consultant will make suggested changes and amendments after review by GUO where necessary.

    EDUCATION

    Master’s degree in literature, translation and related field.

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    At least five years of relevance in translation of documents. Experience in translating documents for UN agencies is desirable.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Fluent in both English and French. Experience translating documents for UN agencies is desirable.

    RENUMERATION

    USD 70.00 per page of the translated text.
