    WASH Officer

    Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Officer in Ethiopia is required. This role will be reporting to the Program Manager in Ethiopia as well as the Regional Programmes Coordinator and will be responsible for all RACIDA activities related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

    Responsibilities

    The duties of WaSH Officer include:

    • Lead initial rapid assessments of current situation in collaboration with field staff, local leaders and affected population; determine priorities and resources.
    • Design and implement WASH interventions to assist target communities moving from the stage of emergency relief into early recovery and development as might be feasible and appropriate.
    • In collaboration with the local health workers and local leaders, help select and design a hygiene promotion and protection strategy.
    • Ensure operation and maintenance, environment and sustainability issues are considered and factored into program design.
    • Prepare project reports as required by the organization, external donors, and other interested bodies
    • Liaise with key non-governmental organizations (NGOs), national, provincial, and local government, and external donors, as necessary; participate in joint agency assessments, task-force teams and workshops, technical committee meetings, and coordination groups.
    • Prepare/assist preparation of concept papers and grants proposals that will be submitted to major donors.
    • Together with the program Coordinator, jointly manage the team leaders working in the field and implementing the programs.
    • Ensure gender and do-no-harm principles are fully considered throughout the project cycle.
    • To liaise closely with the program coordinator and other project managers to ensure good integration of all programme activities
    • To promote community participation and ownership through liaising with the beneficiary communities, establishing, training and supporting water user/sanitation committees and ensuring that activities are as transparent as possible
    • To identify appropriate new activities (when appropriate) in consultation with local communities, local authorities and organizations operational in the area
    • To monitor all expenditure on these budgets and ensure that there is no significant variance between approved budget lines
    • To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the immediate supervisor and regional coordinator

    Qualifications

    • University Degree in Environmental science, public health, Social Sciences or Development related field.
    • Postgraduate degree in development related field preferred
    • Significant experience in water, sanitation and Hygiene/ working as a WASH coordinator
    • A minimum of 3-years experience in development work.
    • Knowledge of project management and country political, religious and social structures
    • Knowledge of SPHERE standard
    • Knowledge and experience of working with pastoral communities
    • Excellent computer skills in MS Word. Excel and Power point presentations
    • Knowledge of pastoral market access issues in the region
    • Clarity of expression for drafting project & financial plans and advice regarding relevant organizational polices
    • Ability to deliver under pressure and within deadlines
    • Clarity of expression for representing RACIDA’s interests
    • Social skills for managing relationships with various stakeholders and for accompanying and guiding communities in the administration of their activities
    • Community mobilization skills
    • Must be a team player
    • Excellent report writing skills
