    Project Officer -Disaster Risk Reduction/Climate Change adaptation (DRR/CCA)

    Job description

    Scope of the Role

    Under the supervision of and in regular consultation with the supervisor, implement the Marsabit Disaster Risk Reduction Project ( DRR), Responsible for the technical contribution to the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the emergency interventions to advance the survival and well-being of children and Pregnant and Lactating Mothers in affected communities within the County. Additionally, provide necessary technical support, related trainings, follow-up, and guidance to the staff, targeted community members, stakeholders and partners and also provide feedback and reports to the Project Manager including ChildFund Country Office within stipulated timeframes.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the implementationof the all activities in the livelihoods and resilience project with focus on DRR/CCA in partnership with targeted communities and other stakeholders within the County.
    • Contribute to effective and timely implementation of Community Led-DRR/CCA interventions and initiatives with communities and partners.
    • Mobilize and sensitize representatives from line Government ministries, County Government and other stakeholders to proactively take part in strengthening community resilience to shocks caused by drought.
    • Develop and impart necessary trainings for staff, community members and partners related to DRR strategies and community based approaches.
    • Jointly with partners carry out vulnerability and capacity assessment exercises and develop and update hazard risk maps.
    • Develop and maintain networks with core actors for benefit of coordination and synergies on DRR, Early Warning/Early Action and emergency response/recovery.
    • Support the contingency planning process putting into consideration disaster preparedness and response interventions.
    • Liaise with the Project Manager and County DRR/CCA coordination arm of the Government in carrying baselines, assessments, designs, monitoring and evaluations and document lessons learnt and recommendations as per ChildFund and donor requirements and procedures.
    • Coordinate with the Project Manager and Project MEAL Officer to ensure that appropriate controls, monitoring and evaluation tools are in place and being utilized in a timely manner.
    • Participate in concepts and proposal development and general resource mobilization/acquisition.
    • Compile the necessary monthly, quarterly and annual reports for onward transmission to Project Manager, and Country Office based DRR/CCA contact person capturing the progress against approved work plans and budgets.
    • Attend monthly planning meetings and other stakeholder meetings as called upon from time to time.
    • Regularly document success stories, key learnings/innovation for sharing across the partnership.

    Required Skills

    • Degree in Disaster Management, Development Studies or any other discipline in social sciences.
    • Demonstrable technical capacity in disaster risk management, resilience and rural development.

    Required Experience

    Minimum 3 years’ experience in designing and supporting the implementation of DRR and resilience building through livelihoods programmes.
