Backend Software Engineer at Spektra Inc.

We currently have operations in Ghana and Kenya. The founder of the company is a Y-Combinator alum who has previously raised millions from US-based investors. Spektra Inc. has currently raised pre-seed financing from experienced US-based investors.

We’re currently looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer, and Architect to join our small team who has previously built products for banks, credit unions (SACCOs) and Mobile Money providers.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, own and implement scalable infrastructure to power our services.
• Build and scale APIs, SDKs for Mobile & Web Clients.
• Collaborate, test, document and iterate core product initiatives.
• Be responsible from idea to execution of products.
• Maintain code quality, automation, and continuous delivery.

Qualifications

• 4-Years minimum experience in backend software development, ideally in FinTech or Financial Services, a huge plus.
• Deep knowledge and experience in digital payments, wallets, and payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe, Braintree, Cards (Visa/MasterCard/AMEX), Mobile Money (M-PESA, MTN, Airtel and the ilk).
• Computer Science degree.
• Creative, innovative problem-solver who requires little to no supervision.
• Code junkie, hungry, strong programming skills, extremely fast, and clean code advocate.
• Low on ego, humble, excellent communication skills and willing to learn.
• Excited about the prospects of FinTech
• Has a startup mentality experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Abreast with the latest software technologies.

Skills

• Highly proficient in programming languages Python (frameworks like Flask, Django) and Java (Spring Boot).
• Highly proficient in database design and modeling using PostgresSQL
• Experience in Django Channels, WebSockets, GraphQL, Microservices Architecture,
• Webhooks, Elastic Search, NGINX, and Algorithms.
• Experience in using AWS, Digital Ocean
• Experience in building, designing, caching, scaling RESTful APIs, SDKs, and Web Apps.
• Version Control Via Github
• Experience in Message Queuing Using Kafka or Rabbit MQ.
