About the Position
Accurate, rich data drives the quality of our work, and enables us to continuously improve our program implementation and advocate for systemic, large-scale reforms. Namati intentionally structures our monitoring and evaluation with learning in mind. This includes evaluating where and how paralegals can be effective at resolving injustices but also, crucially, includes more granular, methodological insights on how to maximize their impact.
To deepen the use of our data for learning, we are searching for two strategic and forward-thinking Global Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers who will ensure that our M&E systems are optimized for programmatic excellence and organizational learning. Reporting to the Director of Global Learning & Practice, the Global M&E Officer is central to coordinating and streamlining processes to track and assess impact across Namati programs.
The Global M&E Officer will be responsible for the following:
M&E support to 4 Namati programs (70% of role)
The Global M&E Officer will work with a team of M&E staff from five of our programs, providing guidance on M&E strategy and supporting them in ongoing implementation and management while building their skills and capacity in the following areas:
Designing M&E systems and tools: collaborating with program teams to develop appropriately targeted M&E systems that can deliver the data needed to answer key strategic questions and advance their learning priorities. Examples include:
Using data for learning: translating program data into meaningful learning that can inform program strategy and iteratively deepen our work; support M&E staff to facilitate reflection and engagement in learning within their teams. Examples include:
Communicating data: supporting Namati programs in effectively communicating our data and impact to a variety of audiences, including program staff, partner organizations and paralegals, donors, policymakers, and impacted communities. Examples include:
Reporting: building program teams’ capacity and systems for external reporting. This includes ensuring alignment between M&E commitments to funders and internal data systems. Examples include:
Other areas of leadership (30% of role):
Convening a 10-member M&E working group: supporting the growth of M&E staff, fostering connections across teams, and identifying opportunities for collaboration. Examples include:
Overseeing global M&E functions: coordinating Namati’s global M&E, including performance tracking through the development of key performance indicators (KPIs), defining indicators for cross-cutting grant proposals, and acting as the point of contact for Development and Communications. Examples include:
A typical week as the Global Monitoring & Evaluation Officer might include:

About Namati
Namati is dedicated to placing the power of law in the hands of people.
For billions of people around the world, the law is broken. It’s an abstraction—or worse, a threat—but not something they can use to exercise their basic rights.
Namati is building a global movement of community paralegals who empower people to understand, use, and shape the law. These “barefoot lawyers” form a dynamic, creative frontline that can squeeze justice out of even broken systems.
In the past four years, Namati and our partners have worked with over 65,000 clients to take on some of the greatest challenges of our times: protecting community lands, enforcing environmental law, and securing basic rights to healthcare and citizenship.
We track data on every case and use that information to advocate for systemic changes, like better policies for land governance in Liberia, environmental regulation in India, and healthcare delivery in Mozambique.
And we're joining forces for change. Namati convenes the Global Legal Empowerment Network—over 1,800 groups and 6,500 individuals from 168 countries learning from one another and bringing justice to communities in every part of the world.
Location
Washington, DC; or Nairobi, Kenya. Please note you must already be eligible to work in the United States or Kenya, respectively, to be considered for this position.
Compensation & benefits
Namati offers competitive compensation in all locales where we operate. Compensation will be set in line with the final determination of title and responsibilities and the candidate’s location. We also offer excellent benefits: while the exact terms vary somewhat based on country office, they always include health coverage, generous paid time off, retirement or old-age plan contributions, sick leave, and parental leave— or compensation for the same. All staff also have access to funds for professional development opportunities.
