Renewable Development Manager at Leap29

Our client have a strong background in renewable energy projects in developing markets and act as an investor, developer and deliverer of various renewable power assets. They have private equity funds focused on renewable energy projects such as hydropower, biomass and solar across Asia.

They are currently seeking a Development Manager to join their growing business in Nairobi, Kenya, to assist in the development strategy in existing and new markets across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Define, propose and execute the development strategy
• Provide leadership and direction on all aspects of project development
• Establish development budgets for specific projects and lead project feasibilities
• Develop, maintain and manage constructive relationship with stakeholders
• Lead project development activities under guidance of Investment Manager and with support from Project Manager
• Evaluate project/investment opportunities from an investment point of view including site visits, estimation of cost, constructability, generation potential, stakeholder relationship, sector development, evacuation
• Participating in, securing and negotiating relevant commercial terms including partnership agreements, PPAs, finance agreements

Required Experience

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Finance or Law
• MBA preferred
• 5- 10 years' experience working in a Development capacity in the Renewable energy or infrastructure space
• Development and Construction experience
• Strong technical profile with engineering qualification
• Exposure to energy and renewable energy deals/transactions would be well regarded
• Excellent Excel and financial modelling skills are required
• Keen interest in renewable energy and investment.
• Excellent written English and ability to write documents to a publishable standard
• Additional language skills would be an advantage (in particular French or Portuguese)
• Enthusiasm and commitment to working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• Highly analytical, organised and pragmatic professional with attention to details.
• Willingness to travel and visit project sites across Africa.
