    Advocacy and Outreach Officer

    Purpose of the position

    This position supports the Africa Regional Director, with guidance from the Global External Affairs team. The aim is to develop a high awareness of DNDi and its mission amount key policy and advocacy stakeholders in the region, engage influential partners, and drive effective initiatives to accelerate the political momentum for biomedical innovation to meet the needs of neglected patients.

    Specific job responsibilities

    Advocacy and outreach – 80%

    • Undertake mapping of relevant key stakeholders in the region for outreach prioritization
    • Contribute to the development of the public affairs strategy for target countries
    • Support outreach to government contacts., and the development and cultivation of relevant partnerships at local, national, and regional level
    • Project manage all advocacy and outreach related engagements, visits, and events in the region

    Communications & learning materials–20%

    • Support the development of briefings and other content to be used in advocacy and outreach
    • Support the development of presentation and learning materials and participate in conferences, workshops, and other external events as requested to advance advocacy goals

    Reporting line

    • S/he reports to the Director, Africa Regional Office
    • Close working relationship with the DNDi Global External Affairs team

    Job requirements

    Skills and attributes

    • Very good communication and analytical skills, well organized, and structured
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural team and in multicultural, multi-lingual environments
    • Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
    • Clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment and problem-solving competencies
    • Ability to contribute to the project delivery under minimum supervision

    Experience

    • At least three to five years of demonstrated relevant experience in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and/or policy development in the international development or global health sector, preferably in Eastern Africa
    • Experience in advocacy and outreach in Africa. Experience in the East African context a plus.

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, public health, communications, public relations, public affairs, or a related field, or demonstrably equivalent experience through grassroots engagement

    Other Requirements

    • Regional travel up to 25%

    • 10 months consultancy contract, possibility for renewal
