Business Development and Grants Manager at Trocaire

Purpose.

• The Business Development and Grants Manager (BDGM) is a member of the Senior Management Team and is responsible for increasing and diversifying the funding base of Trōcaire’s country programmes in line with the organisational and country institutional funding strategies, increasing the profile of Trōcaire with potential donors, and leading the programme team in the development and management of well-designed projects and programmes for submission to institutional donors.
• The role will report to the Country Director and will directly manage a Grants and Compliance Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Country institutional funding strategy development
• Work closely with GPFU in Head Office to achieve organisational deliverables and targets
• Acquire in depth knowledge of both the country strategic frameworks and all programmes in Somalia
• In close coordination with the wider country team, develop and review/update on an annual basis country institutional funding strategy and annual action plan.
• Maintain and regularly update a database of all potential donors for the Somalia programme.
• Regularly update relevant management and programme colleagues on donor strategies, geographical and thematic priorities, future calls and requirements for applications.
• Programme Strategy, Project Design and Resource Acquisition.
• Lead the development and implementation of Trōcaire Somalia’s funding strategy, in line with country programme needs and external funding opportunities.
• Advise on donor funding streams which match with priorities, projects and programmes and take the lead in structuring the approach towards making a funding application.
• Pro-actively identify opportunities for securing institutional funding from donors, embassies, and trust funds. This will involve close liaison with Global Partnerships and Funding staff in Trócaire’s Head Office and Nairobi.
• Keep up to date with donor policy developments and trends, in the development and humanitarian sectors in-country, and represent Trōcaire in funding review groups/networks, as appropriate.
• Strengthen existing contacts with donors and support programme staff and management to establish and build new donor contacts.
• Lead and coordinate the development of institutional funding applications (concept notes and full proposals, including narrative and financial sections) in close coordination with programme coordinators, CMT, Programme Accountant, Regional and Head Office programme and Business Development teams.
• Programme Management. (Includes implementation and M&E).
• Provide advice, guidance and support to staff and partners to meet the contractual obligations and donor requirements.
• Lead the programme team in grant inception meetings, grant review meetings, and grant close out meetings. 
• Maintain and/or develop grant and programme financial management tracking systems.
• Work with programme and finance staff to ensure compliance with all financial requirements.
• Support programme coordinators and partners (where relevant) in the timely development of reports.
• Review all donor contracts (including changes) and keep country management and programme coordinators informed of Trócaire’s responsibilities.
• Support the country teams to ensure all programme and project documentation is kept as appropriate on Trócaire’s Management Information System (Salesforce).
• Organisational planning and learning
• Upload and maintain funding information on Trócaire’s Management Information System (Salesforce) including reporting for the Somalia funding pipeline in collaboration with colleagues, as appropriate.
• Provide information on institutional funding for all relevant documents at organisational, regional, country and programme level.
• Participate fully as a member of the global funding team, contributing to institutional funding planning, evaluation and learning exercises and joint initiatives such as the quarterly and annual funding workshops.
• Provide support to colleagues in specific areas, according to expertise.
• Attend office and organisational meetings and training courses as required/relevant.
• Elaborate strategy summary, capacity statements, communication contents and visibility documents for specific donor’s meeting, communication department in coordination with partners.

Human Resource Mangement.

Ensuring that the grant and compliance officer has a clear understanding of their roles, and responsibilities, and they contribute to achieving the vision and mission of Trōcaire in Somalia.

• Line management of direct reports, ensuring they have clear performance objectives and regular performance reviews, authorise leave, expenses etc. Mentor or performance manage individuals as required. Identify high / low performing staff in the programme team and support mangers to mentor or performance manage staff as required.
• External Relationships, Policy, and Advocacy.
• Support the Country Director to build new donor contacts, strengthen relationships with current donors and negotiate new contracts with donors.
• When required, represent Trōcaire and organisational programmes to external parties including donor and other coordination meetings and those presenting co-financing opportunities.
• Work closely with IFU at head office to ensure coordinated contact with donors.
• Develop briefing and promotional materials to showcase and generate interest in the programmes i.e. briefs, updates, case studies, photo stories, website materials etc.
• Fulfill other reasonable duties and responsibilities, as requested by the Country Director, including deputising for the CD when necessary or appropriate.
