    Carpentry and Joinery Trainer

    Role Overview
    Our client, Buildher, is seeking a Carpentry & Joinery Trainer to play a key role in delivering practical, industry-aligned technical training that empowers women entering the construction sector. This role involves hands-on instruction, curriculum implementation, trainee mentorship, and creating a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment. The ideal candidate brings extensive joinery experience, strong instructional skills, and a passion for supporting women’s advancement in technical careers.

    Key Responsibilities

    Training Delivery & Curriculum Implementation

    • Lead comprehensive, hands-on carpentry training sessions to develop advanced technical skills.
    • Demonstrate step-by-step carpentry processes, including project scoping, interpreting client requirements, site assessments, material sourcing, cutting, joining, assembly, finishing, installation, and post-installation care.
    • Deliver the established curriculum with technical mastery, integrating real-world industry challenges, problem-solving, and quality standards.
    • Collaborate with the technical team to enhance curriculum relevance and practical application and emphasize industry best practices, precision, and technical excellence in all training activities.

    Trainee Support, Mentorship & Performance Tracking

    • Monitor and report trainee attendance, engagement, performance, and professional behavior.
    • Identify and address performance risks, providing structured corrective measures where needed.
    • Mentor trainees to build technical confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills.
    • Support career development by coordinating internships, job-placement opportunities, and providing performance feedback through periodic appraisals.

    Quality Assurance, Safety & Workshop Management

    • Maintain safe, organized, and well-equipped training spaces, ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are functional and properly maintained.
    • Conduct routine evaluations of workshops for safety, cleanliness, lighting, and equipment readiness.
    • Lead toolbox talks, enforce safety protocols, and train learners on construction site dynamics, industry expectations, and professional conduct.
    • Support innovation goals, sustainable practices, and the implementation of quality-focused projects.

    Evaluation, Feedback & Empowerment

    • Assess trainee technical capabilities through practical tasks, theoretical tests, and ongoing observation.
    • Provide detailed, constructive feedback and maintain accurate performance records.
    • Contribute actively to Buildher’s mission of empowering women through skills training, promoting sustainable carpentry practices, and participating in initiatives that enhance training quality, impact, and scalability.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • NITA Grade 1 Certification or Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery, Woodwork Technology, or a related field.
    • Minimum 2 years of hands-on carpentry and joinery experience handling full project lifecycles.
    • Strong technical skills in measuring, cutting, framing, assembling, and finishing, with a solid understanding of wood properties, joinery techniques, and tool/machine use.
    • Ability to guide learners through technical challenges, troubleshooting, and practical project execution.
    • Willingness to collaborate with trainers, staff, and external partners.
    • Demonstrates ownership and fosters accountability in learners.
    • Enthusiasm for inspiring and uplifting women in construction.
    • Commitment to workshop safety, environmental responsibility, and quality workmanship.
    • High attention to detail and a results-driven, innovative mindset.
