Position profile

The Chairperson of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee of Salaries and Remuneration Commission is responsible for providing leadership to the Committee in fulfilling its duties and responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Chairperson include: –

• Chairing Committee meetings.
• Set the agenda of the Committee meetings in consultation with the other members
• Report to the Commission on activities and decisions made by the Audit Committee.
• Support the Commission and provide oversight and assurance on risk management, internal controls and governance processes.
• Follow up on the implementation of recommendations by internal and external
• Periodically arrange for review of the effectiveness and performance appraisal of the Internal Audit function.
• Perform the roles and responsibilities as laid out in the PFM (National Government) Regulations 2015 as well as the Audit Committee Guidelines for National Government, 2016.
• Perform any other assignment by the Commission.

Requirement for appointment

For appointment to Chairperson position a person should:

• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Possess minimum of a bachelors’ degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Auditing, Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized
• Be a member in good standing of a professional body such as ICPAK, ACCA, IIA, or ICPSK in good standing.
• Have served at senior management level for at least 10 years with proven experience.
• Have a good understanding of the mandate, objects, principles and functions of the Commission.
• Have a good understanding of Public Sector operations, financial reporting or auditing.
• Have thorough knowledge of the Audit Committee operations, Public Finance Management Act and regulations thereto.
• Must be a person of integrity and satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution
• Not be a holder of a political office.

Reporting

The Audit Risk and Compliance Committee reports to the Commission.
