    Chief Superintending Engineer (Mechanical)

    Requirements for appointment

    1. Served in the grade of Senior Superintending Engineer (Mechanical) for at least three (3) years;
    2. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    3. Been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);
    4. Current valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
    5. Corporate membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
    6. Attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution; and
    7. Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of mechanical programmes including supervision of professional and technical staff; and
    8. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Planning, direction and supervision of all activities related to tenders, designing, inspection and administration;
    2. Evaluations and administration of tenders of supply contracts;
    3. Establishment of standards and final preparation of specifications for plant, vehicles and equipment;
    4. Control of mechanical transport and plant funds and monitoring funding scheme expenditure, income and cost variations and recommending charges to hire rates and maintaining records of vehicle and plant maintenance costs for replacement programming;
    5. Establishment, control and supervision of the mechanical inspectorate including valuations, boards of survey, statutory examinations of workshop equipment; and
    6. Proficiency testing of drivers and plant operators;
    7. Control and supervision of all activities of the central workshops including repair and overhaul of plant, vehicles and mechanical equipment and manufacture of works;
    8. Control of funds allocated to central workshops;
    9. Implementation of maintenance and overhaul programmes and standards;
    10. Preparation of progress and output reports;
    11. Assessing and advising on workshop, facilities, manpower and training requirements;
    12. Direction and co-ordination of all mechanical engineering functions at the mechanical and transport department;
    13. Control and supervision of all planning programmes related to mechanical Engineering department;
    14. Final preparation of programmes for availability and utilization, arrangement, allocation, maintenance, replacement and disposal of vehicles, plant and mechanical equipment; and
    15. Long-term planning for equipment management and workshop development programmes.

    Method of Application

    Interested and qualified candidates are requested to make their applications by completing one application on the Kitui County Public Service 2 (KCPS 2) Form.

    The completed KCPS 2 Form, together with certified copies of applicant’s academic/professional certificates, letter of appointment/promotion to their present grade and National Identity Card should reach the office of the Board Secretary, Kitui County Public Service Board, on or before Monday, 13th June, 2022.

    Short listed candidates shall be required to produce both originals and certified copies of their National Identity Card, Academic and Professional certificates and transcripts, letter of appointment/promotion to the current substantive post during interview. In addition, they will be required to ensure that the Head of Department’s recommendation on KCPS 2A Form is forwarded before the interview.
