Role
The Claims and Underwriting Analyst is responsible for coordinating the placement and servicing of insurance policies while managing the entire claims lifecycle on behalf of the client. This role is the primary liaison between the client, the brokerage, and the underwriter, ensuring smooth, efficient, timely and compliant service delivery as per the IRA Act and internal Company Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
The Role report to: General Manager, General Insurance & Life Assurance.
The Role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting and Policy Management (Placement).
- Review client risk profiles, gather all necessary data, and prepare complete proposal forms for the classes of insurance i.e., Life and Non-Life.
- Keep clean register of all business and KYC documents.
- Ensuring that client understand the coverage and their obligations.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of data before submission to insurance
- Arrangement of valuation for properties and assessment where necessary
- Collaborate with the Business Development Team to ensure pricing is within acceptable rates for timely business placement with the underwriters.
Policy Processing and Documentation.
- Ensure timely issuance of cover notes, motor certificates, policy documents, endorsements, and debit/credit notes.
- Accurately process all new business, renewals, and endorsements in the Brokerage Management System Birth Mark and maintain comprehensive physical and digital files.
Support Renewals and Retention.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department to ensure strict compliance with the “Collection” principle and follow up on premium collections to maintain an acceptable debt portfolio.
- Proactively notify the Client Service Team on policy renewals, preparing renewal summaries in advance to achieve a high client retention rate.
Claims Management.
Notification and Registration.
- Act as the first point of contact for clients reporting claims, providing clear advice on the process and documentation required.
- Register claims accurately and promptly in the system and report them immediately to the relevant insurance underwriters.
Coordination and Follow-up.
- Manage and monitor the progress of all outstanding claims with the underwriter and other third-party service providers.
- Advise clients on claims status, ensuring regular communication and transparency throughout the entire settlement process.
Settlement, Reporting and Analytics.
- Review claims discharge vouchers and final settlement amounts to ensure they align with policy terms and client expectations.
- Prepare management reports and analyze claims statistics and loss ratio reports to provide insights on risk mitigation.
Dispute Resolution.
- Proactively identify and resolve claim bottlenecks or disputes between the client and the underwriter, escalating complex issues where necessary for quick and effective resolution.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Commerce, Finance, or a related business field.
Added Advantage:
- Diploma in Insurance (AIIK / CII or equivalent).
- Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).
- Working with Birthmark Experience
Experience: 3-5 years of experience specifically in Insurance Broking, Underwriting and Claims with roles in Medical, General Insurance and Life Assurance experience will be an added advantage.
