    Communications and Digital Outreach Officer

You will play a key role in helping to distill, message and position the complex community health work that Living Goods and its partners engage in for diverse audiences in support of fundraising, advocacy, thought leadership and government adoption of best practices. You’ll draw on your background with nonprofits or African governments to craft a wide range of print and electronic publication materials that effectively elucidate our work and partnerships with others in our quarterly stakeholder reports, blogs, case studies, fact sheets, articles, and more. Importantly, with the support of others in the comms department, you will personally serve as the lead for outreach across all of Living Goods’ communications platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with key internal and external stakeholders to finalize, calendar out and measure the impact of strategic content for key audiences, and will lead regular posting on social media, website updates, and the development of monthly e-newsletters.

    • Messaging Master. In close coordination with the Communications Director, you will play a key role helping to develop and roll out key messages and talking points, updating core website content as our new strategic plan progresses, and supporting global staff with training on messaging.
    • Writer Extraordinaire. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you’ll support departments across Living Goods to create and aggregate strategic communications materials that provide key audiences with timely and accessible information about our work in existing and new countries and advocacy priorities.  This includes but is not limited to translating technical reports into more accessible pieces for varying audiences, and developing content for quarterly stakeholder reports, case studies, newsletters, blogs, external advocacy campaigns, and more. We seek a French speaker, as some of our new country work is in Francophone Africa.
    • Develop and Execute Outreach Strategy. With the support of our communications managers in Kenya and Uganda, you will devise and execute a strategic outreach plan for all of Living Goods’ electronic communications platforms. This includes balancing the supply and demand for content development along with a strategic outreach schedule that maximizes key inflection points.
    • Lead on Social and digital. You will serve as the primary voice for Living Goods’ social media platforms, regularly update our WordPress website site with the latest content and serve as the editor of monthly internal and external e-newsletters. You will also develop concrete measurement goals and analytics to ensure the elevation of our strategic goals, while gathering insights that will inform priorities for future content creation.
    • Build the brand.  Through videos, blogs, photographs, stories, infographics, policy briefs and presentations, you will work with others on the communications team and external consultants to support the development of graphics for social media, updating fact sheets and reports, and engaging in basic video editing.
    • Promote us.  Through global health conferences and other events, you will help develop tools, graphics and materials to promote Living Goods, ensure our robust participation in virtual campaigns, and identify events to showcase our work.

    Your background

    • Write well and speak simply.   You can distill a complex impact evaluation into key messages and a dense donor update into a readable report.  You can take the rough points of a success story and weave them together into a compelling narrative. You know how to hook people’s attention and tell a good story. You have a love of good grammar and strong attention to detail.
    • Communication credentials You have 6+ years of experience in communications roles – ideally a combination of nonprofit and private sector – in growing organizations.  You’ve worked in multiple disciplines, like web, content, social media, and public relations. You have 1-2 years of experience working on international development issues, and ideally some expertise communicating about public health, and issues in sub-Saharan Africa. You have a strong design sense and expert-level skills in Word and PowerPoint. If you have expertise with the Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and Photoshop), Mailchimp and basic video editing skills it’s a big plus—but you will definitely need the willingness to learn. You must be comfortable writing for Twitter and other social media forums in ways that optimally target influencers and key inflection points.
    • Create a solid, measurable plan. You have created communications strategies and outreach plans that align strategic, operations and advocacy teams and provide a comprehensive path to achieving our goals. You understand web and social media analytics and can use them to drive insights.
    • You speak and read French and are culturally adaptable. We’re expanding in West Africa and so seek someone with solid French skills to support documentation and outreach about those efforts. We value diversity, equity and inclusion, and welcome people from different cultures and sectors: the private sector, social entrepreneurial sector, nonprofit sector, government and public health community.
    • Team player.  You play well with others enjoy seeing the impact of our work as a team. A good sense of humor and easygoing personality is essential.  We have a great team spirit and love to laugh.
    • Multitasker.  You’re able to juggle multiple tasks at once while ‘keeping calm and carrying on.’  You think strategically, handle ambiguity and work well in a multicultural environment.
