JOB PURPOSE:
This role is responsible for co-ordinating and leading Community and Public Engagement activities for the Human Infection Studies Platform within KEMRI Wellcome. The post holder will work in close collaboration with fellow Community Facilitators and the broader Engagement Platform and Communications team in activities aimed at enhancing mutual understanding between the programme and the community and other relevant stakeholders.

• Cash imprest for Engagement activities of up-to Kes. 100,000.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning and implementation of community and public engagement activities for all Challenge Studies.
• Support the Training Coordinator in implementing basic and refresher training for front line staff, and especially staff in Challenge Studies.
• Conduct continuous mapping and identification of potential engagement stakeholders and publics that can be engaged for Challenge Studies;
• Respond to and document concerns/issues/opinions coming through the CLG helpline;
• Ensure appropriate documentation of all Challenge engagement activities, including developing and sharing of activity reports;
• Support the development, production and distribution of information, education and communication (IEC) print, audio and audio-visual materials for Challenge Studies;
• Support Study field workers and other junior staff in implementation of their roles and responsibilities;
• When called upon, support other Programme research teams to develop and implement study specific engagement activities;
• Support broader activities aimed at building of mutual relationship and trust among communities and KWTRP researchers;
• Enhance health and safety aspects of activities being undertaken.
Qualifications:
• A Higher National Diploma in community development or equivalent
• At least 6-7 years’ experience as a Community Facilitator II.
• Demonstrated experience with working in a research setting

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Strong Organizational, planning and administrative skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision
• Teamwork with the ability to work diverse teams.
