    Consultant – Household Energy and Health

    Purpose of consultancy

    To develop important products within WHO’s Clean Household Energy Solutions Toolkit (CHEST). CHEST contains tools and resources to facilitate countries and implementers to develop action plans and policies for the adoption of clean household energy. The products covered by this consultancy include several policy briefs summarizing CHEST tools and recent research, as well as additional facilitation to undertake tasks related to CHEST development and piloting

    Deliverables

    • Deliverable 1: Incorporate lessons learned from piloting the Clean Household Energy Policy and Programme Planning Guide in countries to finalize the document. 
    • Deliverable 2: Provide input and guidance into continued development and updates of CHEST tools (WHO Benefits of Action to Reduce Household Air Pollution Tool and WHO Household energy policy repository) 
    • Deliverable 3: Contribute to development of content for communication materials about CHEST and the CHEST tools, including briefs, training videos, website, and presentations. 
    • Deliverable 4: Contribute to the design and development of presentations and training materials for workshops related to capacity building for implementation of the CHEST tools. 

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Minimum first university degree in public health, natural or social science.

    Desirable:

    • Advanced university degree in public health, natural or social sciences.    

    Experience

    Essential:

    • 5  to 10 years of experience working on household energy and/or health issues.
    • At least 2 years’ experience working on household energy and/or health issues at the international level. 

    Desirable:

    • Experience within the UN system. 
    • Experience working with multi-stakeholder/agency partnerships.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Expertise in the field of household energy use and health (ideally in policy and programme development and implementation). 
    • Expertise in preparing high quality technical documents for different audiences (e.g. general public, policy-makers, researchers).
    • Excellent writing skills.  
    • Expertise in organizing and leading technical and outreach events or workshops.
    • Strong diplomacy and collaboration skills to work with colleagues and partners and find common ground.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Strong communication and outreach skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. 

    Desirable:

    • Expertise with statistical software such as STATA.
