    Consultant - Vision and Eye Care

    Purpose of consultancy

    • To contribute to the development of a global WHO initiative on refractive error to support the achievement of the World Health Assembly endorsed 2030 target on effective refractive error coverage (eREC).
    • To contribute to the development and delivery of a research agenda for integrated people-centered eye care

    Deliverables

    • Deliverable 1: To contribute to the development of a global WHO initiative on refractive error to support the achievement of the World Health Assembly endorsed 2030 target on effective refractive error coverage (eREC).
      • Activity 1.1: Contribute to the development of guidance on models of service delivery for spectacles in Primary Health Care, including models of procurement and inventory management for optical frames and lenses.
      • Activity 1.2: Contribute to the finalization and rolling out of the WHO Vision Testing application to promote regular vision checks.
      • Activity 1.3: Contribute to the development of investment cases for optical services integrated within government health services.

    Expected by: 30 September 2023

    • Deliverable 2: To contribute to the development and delivery of a research agenda for integrated people-centered eye care. 
      • Activity 2.1: Contribute to planning and undertaking of regional consultations on setting an agenda for health policy and systems research to strengthen eye care across regional contexts.
      • Activity 2.2: Contribute to the planning and conduct of a workshop hosted by WHO with researchers, clinicians, non-governmental organizations and policy makers to set a research agenda for eye care, including the development of a background paper for the workshop.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Advanced university degree in one of the specialties of eye care.
    • Advanced university degree in public health or a related field.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • Over 10 years of relevant experience in an eye care related field. 
    • Demonstrated experience in project management and collaboration.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Excellent communication skills. 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
