    Database Administrator

    Job Description

    • The Database Administrator will perform a variety of database administration and management assignments on Microsoft, Oracle, and other database technologies. This requires knowledge of established relational database management procedures and data processing knowledge.  The job holder will be   expected to analyze and understand the business requirements, design, and develop reporting tools/ solution (technically and functionally), manage large databases running applications across various businesses and to be fully responsible for data back-up and recovery.

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Database Installation and Configuration: Your role will involve installing and configuring database software on servers, ensuring all settings and configurations meet application requirements and security standards.
    • Database Design and Architecture: You will collaborate with application developers and system analysts to design and implement efficient database structures that align with business needs and adhere to best practices.
    • Database Security: Implementing robust security measures to safeguard sensitive data, including user access controls, data encryption, and conducting regular security audits.
    • Performance Optimization: Monitoring and fine-tuning database performance to achieve optimal response times and efficient resource utilization. Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks is a crucial aspect of this role.
    • Backup and Recovery: Ensuring regular data backups and implementing recovery procedures to minimize data loss and maintain high availability.
    • Data Migration and Integration: Facilitating seamless data migration between databases and applications, as well as integrating data from various sources into our databases.
    • Database Maintenance: Conducting routine maintenance tasks such as index rebuilding, statistics updating, and system patching to uphold database health and stability.
    • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnosing and resolving database-related issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to address complex problems.
    • Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive documentation of database configurations, changes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity within the team.
    • Database Monitoring and Reporting: Implementing monitoring tools to track database performance metrics and generating periodic reports on database health and usage.
    • Capacity Planning: Forecasting future database growth and planning for scalability to accommodate increasing data volumes and user demands.
    • Compliance and Governance: Ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and adhering to organizational data governance policies.

    KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE 

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Database administration.
    • Experience working with relational databases is required. Working knowledge in MS SQL, Oracle and MySQL is mandatory.
    • Experience working with a data warehouse is required.
    • Solid understanding of data modelling, extraction, transformation, and batch load processing is an added advantage.
    • Strong knowledge of Linux and Unix based operating systems.
    • Basic hardware knowledge.
    • Basic knowledge of Azure and AWS Cloud Platform.
    • Excellent PL/SQL Programming expertise.

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or equivalent.
    • Certification in database administration (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
    • Certification in Azure or AWS Cloud Platform is an added advantage.
