    Deputy Chief of Party/Technical Director

    Position Description

    CHAK is seeking to fill the following position for an anticipated award for the USAID-funded Kenya Tuberculosis Program Support Activity (TBPSA) which is anticipated to start early 2024.

    The proposed USAID’s Tuberculosis Program Support Activity (TBPSA) project will support the Ministry of Health (MoH) to control and prevent tuberculosis (TB) in Kenya. The project will strengthen diagnosis of TB, improve quality of TB treatment services and prevention of transmission of TB, besides spearheading introduction of new technologies and approaches, and sustain the gains made in control of TB in Kenya. The project will have research component to support studies and operations research in relevant areas.

    Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project to CHAK and final USAID approval of the candidate.

    Deputy Chief of Party/Technical Director

    Working closely with the Chief of Party (COP) and Deputy COP (DCOP), will lead the development and implementation of evidence-based technical strategies to achieve TB program objectives. He/she will support technical and programmatic aspects of the project. S/he will provide leadership to ensure quality, timeliness and efficiency of all project activities and results. S/he will support the Chief of Party (COP) in strategic and annual work planning, management, and monitoring of project operations and key deliverables, and liaise with relevant stakeholders from different sectors.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    1. The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will be responsible for the overall technical oversight of the project and is specifically responsible for project implementation that relates to the activity.
    2. The DCOP reports directly to the COP and will take a leadership role in ensuring technical implementation of high impact, proven interventions and ensuring the project meets stated goals and reporting requirements.
    3. S/he will assume the responsibilities of the COP in the absence of the COP.
    4. S/he will coordinate among USAID and key stakeholders and other implementing partners and will interact with numerous GoK institutions and representatives, both at the national and county-level.
    5. S/he will be knowledgeable about current activity implementation and state-of-the- art delivery approaches.
    6. Any other lawful duties as may be assigned that is within the scope and nature of the anticipated program for this role.

    Qualifications and Competencies

    1. A minimum of a Medical degree and master’s degree in public health, health administration, management, international health, or related field.
    2. Ten (10) years of experience in a senior role leading a complex program of similar scope and dollar value preferably in a developing country like Kenya.
    3. Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of TB and TB-HIV/AIDS.
    4. Seven (7) years of experience building partnerships with national and subnational governments, donors and other multilateral organizations, academia and research institutions, the private sector, local community organizations, and policy think tanks.
