Duties and Responsibilities

• Operations and administration of the ECDE department
• Supervise the ECDE Directorate
• Coordination and implementation of policies and plans.
• Promotion of public and private partnership in ECDE
• Monitoring and reporting of the activities of the department.
• Organizing for capacity building of ECDE staff
• Coordination of ECDE activities in the county.
• Develop programs for training of ECDE teachers and caregivers
• Develop programs for ICT training of teachers and children.
• Develop assessment programs for ECDE teachers and caregivers.
• Coordinating and Facilitating external examination processes and documentation.
• developing a county Resource Centre for ECD programmes initiating research in ECDE field and develop appropriate intervention
• preparing ECDE strategies and giving technical advice and guidance to personnel in lower cadres
• Perform any other duty assigned by the chief officer

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, Deputy Director of ECDE must have:

• Be a Kenyan Citizen
• Served in the grade of Assistant Director of ECDE for three years or a comparable position for a minimum of three years.
• A Bachelors of Education degree in Early Childhood Development from a recognized university or it’s approved equivalent.
• A Masters of Education degree in Early Childhood Development or any other relevant postgraduate degree from a recognized university will be an added advantage.
• Shown exemplary leadership and management skills in ECDE programmes; and
• Have demonstrated a clear understating of ECDE national and county frame work, policies, goals and objectives.
• Demonstrate competence, merit and ability as reflected on work performance and results
• Demonstrate a high degree of administrative and professional competence.
• Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
