Duties and Responsibilities
Compiling research reports of the programmes to ensure standards;
Formulating research and development proposals for conceptualization and initialization of the
identified research priority areas;
Carrying out situational analysis of the key priority areas for research in the UNESCO areas of
competence;
Identifying and facilitate expression of interest for consultancy opportunities, both locally and
internationally on UNESCO’s areas of competence;
Initiating joint proposals with partners and facilitate establishment of joint working groups;
Collating evidence relevant for Kenya from publications on UNESCO areas of competence;
Reviewing and share of UNESCO research and academic journals for knowledge management and
enhancing development of quality programmes;

Providing technical expertise in the development of KNATCOM Research policy, research strategies
and budgets to facilitate systematic operationalization of research in the commission;
Executing of the Commission’s research policies, strategies and plans and facilitate their evaluation;
Disseminating research findings through publications and presentations in their geographical areas
of study, nationally and in internationally;
Mentoring and participating in programme department-based interns and volunteers in the execution
of their research related assignments;
Building capacity of stakeholders on UNESCO research-related scholarships, fellowships and prizes
to increase uptake among Kenyans;
Developing budgets and work-plans to facilitate implementation of department’s objectives; and
Any other duties as may be assigned.
