    Digital Content Intern

    Position Summary

    The Digital Content Intern supports the Senior Digital Content Officer to fact-check, edit, and optimize compelling content for the African Wildlife Foundation website and other digital properties. The content is integral to AWF’s digital marketing efforts and includes long-form online articles, organizational updates, evergreen landing pages, as well as email and social media campaigns for fundraising and advocacy.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide editorial content ideas for long-form articles exploring issues and news in the wildlife conservation and sustainable development sector.
    • Research and support line manager to write original articles based on research papers, project updates or milestones, as well as targeted articles for fundraising campaigns and events, particularly the Benjamin Mkapa African Wildlife Photography Awards and the Africa Protected Areas Congress.
    • Use search engine optimization (SEO) tools to research on current trends and provide recommendations for new editorial content based on priority keywords/interests.
    • Research and develop evergreen content for species pages and other top-level pages.
    • Together with the line manager, attend organizational events and visit program sites to collect visual assets, share content for internal audiences, or develop articles per donor requirements.
    • Reach out to and collaborate with program officers on the ground or department leads to add insight to articles and fact-check before publishing.
    • Upload and publish articles with web-optimized images through the website’s content management system (CMS).
    • Conduct a thorough audit of previously published editorial content to ensure that articles meet current organizational standards, style, and messaging.
    • Under the Senior Digital Content Officer’s supervision, identify and build relationships with new and established online publishing and content platforms to place AWF’s content on external sites and build quality links.
    • Assist the Senior Digital Content Officer to maintain an agile editorial calendar and compile performance metrics for reporting.
    • Research new trends in website design, digital content marketing, and creative writing.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, journalism, or communications
    • At least 6 months experience in research, writing, and editing, with the ability to draft copy quickly for a variety of audiences
    • Basic HTML and CMS experience
    • Understanding of basic SEO principles and best practices
    • Basic photography skills and photo editing skills
