    Director, Advocacy and Accountability, Global Programs

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic leadership to MCGL and other global awards, bilateral projects or technical teams in achieving results through applying policy development, policy implementation, governance, advocacy and accountability approaches to solve RMNCAH and nutrition challenges.
    • Design and oversee implementation of project-specific advocacy and accountability strategies, working collaboratively with colleagues across Jhpiego’s worldwide offices.
    • Design and continually refine a structured process of mainstreaming advocacy and policy actions into MCGL’s work at all levels, especially in field programs.
    • Represent Jhpiego in global Advocacy and Accountability forums
    • Provide technical leadership and skills to countries to identify policy gaps and barriers that are preventing them from or limiting the pace for achieving key public health goals
    • Guide and support policy research and policy and advocacy training and capacity-building activities
    • Facilitate project-specific working groups to reflect on matters such as alignment of health priorities for acceleration of results, empowerment of host country actors and institutions to improved resilience and self-reliance, including how to “de-colonize health development” and increasing accountability within global health and gender equity initiatives.
    • Keep abreast and share critical essential knowledge with Jhpiego and partner colleagues related to global financing mechanisms for the health sector and the role of international and national non-governmental organizations within these structures and bodies.
    • Recognize and elevate the voices of advocates and policy-makers from LMICs within global forums and dialogues
    • Provide technical input in country work plans and implementation approaches
    • Prepare necessary technical and program-related briefs, including presentations and white papers on key and emerging health policy issues; identify programmatic successes, challenges and lessons learned, and ensure appropriate flow of information across the organization; actively engage in management, dissemination and use of relevant knowledge in the field
    • Organize as needed conferences, workshops, and meetings around relevant policy, advocacy or accountability themes
    • Support Jhpiego’s New Program Development efforts when requested and identify new opportunities for policy and advocacy in Jhpiego programs; lead and support responses to those opportunities through development and review of technical and programmatic portions of proposals to ensure technical quality and inclusion of appropriate activities, budgets and expertise
    • Where indicated within project structures, supervise policy and advocacy staff, consultants and student trainees (interns), as needed

    Required Qualifications

    • 15+ years of experience in public health, public policy, health advocacy or other related field
    • Track record working with global agenda setting platforms and partnerships, such as the Global Financing Facility, FP2020 or PMNCH
    • MPH or other master's or doctoral degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Law or other relevant discipline
    • Strong policy analysis, policy implementation and/or strategic planning skills
    • Strong experience with advocacy and accountability approaches that advance relevant public health agendas
    • Comprehensive understanding of current global health funding priorities and players
    • Field oriented and comfortable with a team approach
    • Strong interpersonal, writing, presentation, and organizational skills
    • Ability to develop complex analysis tools/models into PowerPoint presentations and/or other multi-media formats for presentation and training purposes
    • Experience working internationally
    • Excellent knowledge of global development issues
    • Proven abilities for excellent group facilitation, multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning skills, including with officials in positions of power and high levels of decision-making
    • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well with cross-cultural teams, in complex environments and under tight deadlines
    • Experience working with civil society organizations, governments, donors, and international organizations
    • Fluent in English (written and oral communications skills)
    • Ability to travel internationally up to 30% time
