    Director Environment

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Liaising with county governments on environment and natural resources matters
    • Supervising staff in the department
    • Overseeing development and implementation of projects and programs
    • Coordinating/overseeing the domestication and implementation of MEAS
    • Guiding process related to International environmental governance
    • Overseeing preparation of country position papers, speeches and interventions
    • Guiding the development and implementation of environmental policy, legislation and related statues
    • Guiding preparation and implementation of work plans and performance contract target setting
    • Ensuring efficient and effective utilization and management of resources for environment and natural resources
    • Guiding development of project concept notes
    • Facilitating the environment subsector development partners’ coordination for a
    • Spearheading financial and technical resource mobilization
    • Overseeing the development and management of environment and natural resources information system
    • Supervising monitoring of environmental and Natural resources projects and programs
    • Overseeing rehabilitation, restoration and conservation of river basins
    • Guiding on climate change matters
    • Guiding capacity building on environment and natural resources
    • Guiding in the development and implementation of strategic plan

    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to this grade, and officer must have: -

    • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the relevant field;
    • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Environmental Science, Environmental Conservation and Natural Resource Management, Environmental Conservation, Environmental Education, Environmental Health, Environmental Horticulture and Landscaping, Environmental Law, Environmental Studies and Community Development, Environmental Studies and Community Resource Conservation, Fisheries, Forestry, Geo-spatial Information and Remote Sensing, Agriculture, Aquatic Science, Bio-Resource Conservation and Management, Botany, Chemistry, Climate Change and Development, Coastal and Marine Resource Management, Conservation Biology, Disaster Mitigation and Sustainable Development, Dry land Agriculture and Enterprise Development, Earth Science with Information Technology, Ecology, Environment and Bio-system Engineering, Environment Chemistry, Geography, Geo-information Sciences, Horticulture, Land Resource planning and Management, Management of Agro-Ecosystem and Environment, Marine Resource Management, Meteorology, Natural Resource Management, Range Management, Waste Management, water Resources and Environment, Wildlife Management or Zoology from a recognized institution;
    • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Environmental Economics, Environmental Diplomacy, Environmental Economics, Environmental Diplomacy, Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Forest Survey for Sustainable Development, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Governance, Environmental Policy, Geo-spatial Information and Remote Sensing, Geo-information Sciences, Environmental Planning and Management/Studies/Agro-forestry and Rural Development/Environmental Education/Health/Environmental Management and Legislation, Marine Science, Fish Science, Biological Science (Botany/Zoology/Aquatic Ecology/Biology of Conservation), Management of Agro-ecosystems and Environment, Afro – Forestry, Environmental Chemistry, Climate Change Adaption, Agriculture Resource Management, Agriculture Economics, Land and Water Management, Biodiversity Conservation, Limnology and hydrology, Wildlife Conservation; Range Management, Metrology, Climate Change or Sustainable Development from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
    • Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution, and demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to proper management of environmental and natural resource function

    Salary Scale: The salary will be in Job Group “R” and other benefits attached to this position will be as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
