Kitui County is located 170Km to the South East of Nairobi City. It covers an area of about 30,496 km2. It borders Machakos and Makueni Counties to the West, Tana River County to the East, Taita-Taveta County to the South, and Embu and Tharaka- Nithi Counties to the North.
Salary Scale: Ksh. 124,630 x 6,070 – 130,700 x 6,370 – 137,070 x 6,570 – 143,640 x 6,770 – 150,410 x 6,960 – 157,370 x 7,160 – 164,530 x 7,820 – 172,350 p.m.

Requirement for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
- Be a citizen of Kenya;
- Have a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Urban and Regional Planning, Regional Planning, Urban Planning or Town Planning from a recognized institution;
- Have a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Regional Planning, Urban Planning or Town Planning from a recognized institution;
- Be a corporate member of Kenya Institute of Planners or Architectural Association of Kenya (Town Planning Chapter);
- Be registered by the Physical Planners Registration Board;
- Have a certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Have a Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution; and
- Demonstrated managerial and professional competence in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of national policies, goals, objectives and ability to relate them to the Physical Planning function.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advising the county government on physical and land use planning matters that impact the county;
- Formulating county physical and land use planning policies, guidelines and standards;
- Preparation of local physical and land use development plans;
- Participating in the preparation of inter-county physical and land use development plans;
- Undertaking research on matters relating to physical and land use development planning at the county level;
- Recommending to the county government the establishment of planning units as may be necessary;
- Maintaining a land information system to guide physical and land use planning;
- Communicating decisions of the county government development applications; and
- Issuance of development permission and other development control instruments as provided for in the Physical and Land Use Planning Act with the approval of the county executive committee member.
