    DRC - Business and Human Rights Consultant

    Coordination and Capacity Support

    • Regular Updates and Information Sharing: Monthly meetings with Regional Office/IBDGH and BHR Team. Quarterly updates to share with sections.
    • Capacity Building Materials: Production of training materials for Amnesty International's partners (human rights defenders, journalists, affected communities).
    • Workshops and Training Events: Two workshops on business and human rights and research/campaign for partners in Kolwezi.

    Advocacy and Campaigning on the Powering Change Report

    • An actionable and updated advocacy and campaign plan
    • Two meetings between community representatives, provincial government, members of the Provincial Commission on Relocation and mining companies' representatives on recommendations/implementation progress of the 2023 Forced Evictions Report.
    • Coordination of Amnesty International's visits to Kolwezi and Kinshasa and arrange meetings with different stakeholders in the mining sector, including communities, local and national government officials, companies.
    • Records of meetings with different stakeholders on advocacy engagements for policy/practice changes that address forced evictions in the mining sector, as outlined in the report's recommendations.
    • Database on key progress/backsteps by mining companies and DRC government in implementing recommendations based on the 2023 Forced Evictions Report.
    • A public output summarizing progress (or lack thereof) in the implementation of the 2023 Forced Evictions Report's recommendations.

    Monitoring Mining Policy Impacts

    • Create and maintain a database on policy reforms in mining sector and their impact on human rights in Kolwezi.
    • Create and maintain a database on mining companies' policies/practices that affect human rights.

    Artisanal Mining Reform Analysis

    • Produce an analysis of reforms since the 2016 report, including challenges and successes.

    Scoping New Research

    • Preliminary research findings to inform future investigations.   

    Skills and Experience

    Essential Requirements:

    • Proven experience in human rights research, advocacy, and campaigning, particularly in business and human rights.
    • Strong knowledge of mining sector policies, corporate due diligence, and human rights principles.
    • Experience engaging with governments, corporate actors, and civil society on human rights issues.
    • Excellent research and analytical skills, including experience conducting field research and writing policy briefings.
    • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships across different sectors.
    • Fluency in French and English (spoken and written).
