    Environmental and Social Specialist

    Job Description

Many high impact projects, including many operating in sub-Saharan Africa, have difficulty in aligning with the Development Finance Corporation’s (DFC) environmental and social requirements and lack the institutional capacity to implement newly adopted procedures in a timely manner consistent with the DFC’s expectations. As DFC works to increase investment in sub-Saharan Africa, it is prepared to assist promising investees to help them meet international environmental and social policies and ensure maximum development impact.

CrossBoundary (CB) is currently hiring an Environmental and Social (E&S) Specialist to assist prospective DFC investees.  The Specialist will work with the DFC’s Office of Development Policy (ODP).  The Specialist will evaluate existing processes and procedures for ODP’s impact, environmental, and social clearances and assist prospective and current DFC clients to create and implement policies and procedures that comply with DFC policy requirements. Further, the Specialist will coach DFC clients to assist them in building long-term capacity to enhance impact and reduce risk. Finally, they will monitor DFC clients for performance, conformance, and adherence to their newly adopted policies over time.

    Requirements

    • Experience managing and reporting on International Finance Corporation (IFC) performance standards
    • 5+ years of relevant work experience
    • Experience living and/or working in Sub-Saharan Africa
    • French language skills are advantageous

    • Biased to Action. High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to operate effectively amid change. Eager to take on new types of work, even without prior experience or direct supervision.
    • Humble. Thrives in a non-hierarchical, collaborative environment and welcomes input on their approach from any teammate.
