The FD is accountable for the streamlining and developing of robust and accurate financial processes and procedures; supporting business decision making; and developing a cost control culture across the business. They will manage four qualified accountants covering Financial reporting, FP&A and commercial analysis but expected to be hands-on and on top of the detail.
Roles & Responsibilities
Strategic & Financial Leadership
Lead financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimisation, to ensure long-term business sustainability and profitability.
Drive commercial finance and investment analysis, evaluating growth opportunities and strategic investments.
Provide insights on financial risk management, FX exposure, and liquidity planning, ensuring robust cash flow and treasury management.
Optimise capital allocation, ensuring surplus funds are invested prudently in alignment with company policy.
Shape financial policy and governance, aligning financial strategies with international best practices and regulatory requirements.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Oversee financial reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance, ensuring timely and accurate financial disclosures.
Enhance financial analytics capabilities, implementing best-in-class reporting frameworks for performance tracking and variance analysis.
Drive the implementation and utilisation of FP&A software (Board) for dynamic forecasting and real-time financial insights.
Support the development of the company’s 5-year strategic plan, integrating financial projections and market trends.
Strengthen relationships with institutional investors, lenders, and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with financing covenants.
Prepare and present high-impact management reports, investor decks, and financial briefings for executive leadership and board meetings.
Operational & Team Leadership
Serve as a key thought leader, providing strategic financial counsel to the CFO and executive leadership team.
Build and develop a high-performing finance team, ensuring strong financial acumen and literacy across senior leadership.
Enhance cost control culture across departments, aligning spending with strategic priorities.
Champion digital transformation in finance, leveraging Microsoft Dynamics and other financial technologies to streamline operations.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Qualified Accountant (CPA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA, or equivalent) with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
15+ years of senior financial leadership experience in a fast-paced, high-volume, multi-currency environment, preferably in financial services, fintech, or banking.
Strong commercial acumen, with experience in financial planning, cost management, and strategic decision-making.
Proficiency in financial software and analytics tools, including ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics) and FP&A platforms (Board).
Exceptional leadership and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of leading high-performing teams.
Experience in a multinational or cross-border financial environment, with an understanding of regulatory frameworks across African markets.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven mindset and the ability to translate insights into actionable business strategies.
