    Global Governance Policy Specialist (Re-Advertisement)

    Main responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic advice and facilitate the development of network policy positions and advocacy strategies related to the achievement of inclusive conservation, human rights based approaches, and safe civic space for relevant global fora, (UNCBD, UNFCCC, UNCCD, High Level Political Forum for SDG, CSW, CITES, UNPFII) and regional fora as relevant.
    • Advice the professional, coherent and effective network engagement of diverse WWF Practices, offices and teams at appropriate policy dialogues relevant to inclusive conservation, human rights based approaches, and safe civic space. 
    • Engage regularly in WWF’s Policy Managers network and coordinate with Policy leads in other Practices and GPAT to drive cross-practice and cross-topic policy coherence. 
    • Liaise and co-ordinate with relevant external partners to drive powerful policy change and find best practice solutions to policy dilemmas in cooperation with Policy Manager and focal points for of above mentioned global fora. 
    • Provide a research and radar capacity on external policy developments relevant to the position objectives, and advise on additional global fora offering advocacy opportunities. 
    • Support capacity building of colleagues in the WWF network to develop skills and experience related to achievement of Practice outcomes.
    • Provide guidance to the VfD programme offices on policy advocacy on inclusive conservation, human rights based approaches, and safe civic space, under the Voices for Diversity programme and under arrangements approved by GOV Practice Leader. 
    • Developing and utilizing a policy and advocacy monitoring plan including contribution to the achievement of PPLS and IPLC components of the New Deal for Nature and People.
    • Supported by the WWF-Kenya finance team and in consultation with the Deputy Governance Practice team leader and the WWF Sweden VfD Programme Coordinator, develop and manage budgets in line with the finance policies and procedures.
    • Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Practice Leader

    Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

    • University degree in a relevant discipline e.g. human rights, indigenous rights, and social dimensions of conservation, environmental policy, International relations, or similar disciplines.
    • 5-7 years of professional policy experience in policy advocacy for conservation, environment and human rights or indigenous rights work.
    • Experience of working with governments, corporate sector, aid agencies, civil society, and NGOs.
    • Track record of delivering policy advocacy and impact.
    • In depth understanding of global and regional environmental, natural resources and geopolitical governance.
    • Strategic thinking and vision
    • Ability to effect change in a constructive and solutions oriented manner.
    • Outstanding communication, policy analysis, coordination and advocacy skills.
    • Fluency in English; Spanish and/or French an advantage;  any other language/s an asset
    • Experience of working in complex organizations.
    • A strong team player, with an ability to promote institution-wide collaboration
    • Results driven, tenaciously working to meet or exceed goals.
    • Passion for conservation and human rights
    • Adheres to WWF’s values.
