Head of Underwriting & Reinsurance – General Insurance at PACIS Insurance

JOB PURPOSE

The job holder is responsible for leading underwriting and reinsurance strategy to deliver profitable growth through disciplined risk selection, adequate pricing, portfolio monitoring, effective reinsurance placement, compliance enforcement, customer experience management, and operational excellence.

The job holder is measured on underwriting profit, loss ratio by class of business, renewal retention rate, turnaround time for quotations and policy documentation, compliance with underwriting authority limits, reinsurance placement timeliness, accuracy of reinsurance recoveries, profitable premium growth, audit findings closure, and team performance against agreed objectives.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE. Qualifications:
Minimum Academic Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/ Business /Economics from a recognized University.

Professional Qualifications

• Qualification in Insurance, including ACII or AIIK, or equivalent professional qualification as per the Insurance Act
• Membership in a relevant professional insurance body, such as the Insurance Institute of Kenya.

Experience:

• Seven (7) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been at supervisory level and above.

Knowledge

• Strong understanding of the insurance industry, underwriting principles, reinsurance structures, regulatory requirements, risk assessment, pricing, claims trends, and portfolio profitability management.
