    In-House Specialist-General Surgery

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Director Medical Services, the In-house Specialist shall be responsible for provision of appropriate care to in-patients and public out-patients visiting the Unit

    Main Duties

    1.  Run general and specialist surgery clinics both in the Main hospital and in the Satellite Clinics as per qualification
    2.  Attend to surgical patients in the hospital and attend daily ward rounds with the surgical team in various units both general and specialized units
    3.  Perform both emergency and planned surgical care including management of post-operative follow-up in conjunction with the anaesthesiologist
    4.  Lead a patient centred model of care with communication and compassionate conscientious practice
    5.  Provide wholistic care to encompass preventive, psychosocial health and patient education among others
    6.  Develop the technical, clinical and professional skills of the surgical teams including nursing, ICU, medical, and allied clinical staff
    7.  Guide and supervise learning and clinical governance platforms such as CME’s, morbidity and mortality, Multidisciplinary teams meetings, grand rounds, Root cause analysis etc
    8.  Accountable to design, develop, and manage medical-surgical programs and co-ordinate quality improvement activities
    9.  Maintains a sufficient flow of work throughout the department by evaluating and revising procedures accordingly
    10.  Represents the Hospital in its relationships with other stakeholders like health organizations and government agencies in matters of mutual interest
    11.  Reviewing clinical practice by developing and participating in medical record audits, and other practice review activities
    12.  Assuring coordination of activities and clinical practice for medical care and clinical services
    13.  Medical Liaison/Consultation ­ Develop review, and monitor medically-related policies, advise medical staff regarding medical surgical diagnosis and treatment; determine the direction of Hospital medical programs
    14.  Submit appropriate program progress reports to the Medical Director
    15.  In charge of mortality and morbidity review for the department
    16.  Spearheads the functions and maintenance of the Hospital Disaster Committee Policy
    17.  Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required

    Required Qualifications for the Position

    1.  BSc. Medicine & Surgery
    2.  MMED. Surgery
    3.  Fellow of COSECSA
    4.  Post qualification in Health Management System
    5.  Minimum of 4 years working experience in a supervisory role
    6.  Registered with KMPDC
