    Intern - Programme Management, I (Temporary Job Opening)

    The Unit requires an intern to assist in the implementation of cleaner mobility activities of the Unit. Specifically, the intern will provide support towards the establishment of the Used Vehicles Global Programme by assisting in research on the international second hand vehicle trade and grey market with the objective of compiling clear and concise documentation that will eventually support the development of policies to encourage cleaner and more efficient importation of secondhand vehicles in developing and transitional markets. The internship is for six months. The internship is unpaid and fulltime. The intern will work five days (3540 hours) per week.

    Responsibilities

    • Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Unit and the day to day supervision of the Programme Officer Used Vehicles Programme, the intern will:
    • research specific to used vehicle fleets and trade in selected countries, including the flow of vehicles to and from various markets to improve the Unit's understanding on the supply chain, quality and scale of used vehicles and used vehicles trade
    • Review, identify, collect, organize and help analyze information on policies related to the regulation of secondhand vehicle trade in selected markets
    • Updating and reviewing the used vehicles database
    • Support in communicating programme activities to a variety of partners and stakeholders via organization of webinars, development of reports and case studies, infographics etc.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Programme Officer and the Head, Air Quality and Mobility Unit.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or,
    • (b) be enrolled in or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent in the courses listed below);
    • (c) have or is undertaking the following courses:Environmental Science, Sustainable Transport, Sustainable Development or related courses
    • 2) Be computer literate in standard software applications;
    • 3) Have a demonstrated and keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
    • 4) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • 5)The candidate must have strong analytical skills and sound knowledge of environment and mobility(i.e. used vehicles) related issues

    Work Experience

    Are you a student in a Bachelor's (final year), Master's or Ph.D. programme or equivalent, or have you completed a degree course?
    Will you be able to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship?
    Is your field of study closely related to the type of internship you are applying for?

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.

    Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
