    L&D Instructional Designer

    Job Overview

    The role of the Instructional Designer is to analyze, design, develop, and evaluate learning resources, programs and curricula that provide our clients with the knowledge and skills required to achieve results in all that they do both personally and professionally. The learning solutions should be developed following proven best practice and learning methodology to ensure high quality, immersive solutions whether in a digital or traditional learning environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Executing the following phases of instructional design methodology: needs analysis, task analysis, learning objective generation, program/curriculum design, course outlining, wireframe and storyboard development, creation of effective assessments, creation of an effective evaluation strategy, determination of the components, learning strategies and structure for each solution.
    • Creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.
    • Creating resources and job aids that drive high performance.
    • Ensuring that all learning solution design follows CFAs’ design principles and applies industry-standard instructional design principles and theories.
    • Working with subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand the target audience’s training needs and script technical course content for them.
    • Drawing on desk research to design and develop content where no SMEs are available.
    • Working as a consultant in partnership with our internal teams on a project by project basis: to help them set up and manage the production process and develop their own learning content.
    • Facilitating engaging live learning sessions, either in person or online.
    • Writing effective and compelling communications for programs and events.
    • Recommending best practice and structure for the deployment of programs, and maintaining ongoing engagement with learners.
    • Visualizing instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product.
    • Reporting to the Senior Instructional Designer / Project Manager on project schedules, deadlines, and other KPIs; and on progress on Sprint deliverables.
    • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of learning culture, instructional design and technical writing within CFA by sharing technical expertise and best practice with the team and organisation.

    Requirements

    Essential Skills

    • Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology.
    • Proven experience in leading the design, writing and creating high quality learning material (digital and non-digital).
    • The ability to understand, edit and apply instructional design principles to all types of material including subjects outside the field of expertise.
    • Excellent knowledge of learning theories, adult pedagogy and instructional design models.
    • Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
    • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.
    • Visual design skills and ability to wireframe and storyboard.
    • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods.
    • BS or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar.
    • Sound project management skills - able to manage a portfolio of projects, working within tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
    • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills at all levels.
    • Effective interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work in a highly organised and logical manner, working as part of a team and on own initiative.

    Desired Skills

    • Solid knowledge of responsive course development software and Learning Management Systems.
    • Interest in the pedagogical use of innovative IT technologies.
    • Familiarity with website design, video production and editing.
    • An awareness of accessibility standards.
    • Experience designing learning solutions for a global audience.
    • Experience working and managing projects effectively in an agile environment, and with an MVP mindset.
    • Experience designing and managing projects using a SCRUM framework and ceremonies.
    • Able to create supportive environments for learning which includes online community management, promoting collaboration and discussion through social media technologies and teaching experts how to generate and share your own content.
