    Legal Counsel Anglophone East Africa

    Job Purpose:

    • As a Legal Counsel for DHL entities throughout Eastern Anglophone Africa, the primary purpose of this role is to provide comprehensive legal services to minimize the risk of legal exposure in key activities related to commercial and operating practices. Reporting to the Head of Legal for the region, the incumbent will represent the company in all aspects of legal requirements, ensuring compliance with local and international legislation, with a specific focus on competition compliance and data protection.

    Principal Accountabilities:

    • Provide risk analysis for legal and commercial matters to implement preventative measures, safeguarding the legal and commercial interests of the company.
    • Collaborate with external legal counsel across the region to address legal matters spanning finance, insurance, general corporate, litigation, regulatory affairs, human resources, and commercial/corporate issues.
    • Ensure departmental visibility and control of legal matters across the region.
    • Draft and review contracts and other legal documents, offering professional guidance and training to minimize legal exposure.
    • Provide professional advice and guidance to involved parties, maximizing the legal operating practices of the company.
    • Stay informed of substantial legal changes that may impact the company's commercial performance.
    • Produce regular and ad-hoc reports, offering administrative assistance within the Legal department.
    • Manage inquiries and provide data to international departmental functions as required.
    • Execute tasks as necessary to support legal department team members and business units.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Law; 8 years PQE from a reputable university; or Juris Doctor with at least 10 years of experience.

    Skills:

    • High degree of personal integrity.
    • Essential commercial/corporate awareness.
    • Fluency in English (written and spoken); fluency in French desirable.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Effective communication at all levels of the business.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to navigate within various legal facets.
