    Legal Counsel

    JOB GROUP ‘CPSB 05’ (P)
    Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable

    Requirements for Appointment

    1. Be a Kenyan Citizen;
    2. Served in the grade of Senior Legal Officer or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service for a minimum period of three (3) years;
    3. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university;
    4. Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education;
    5. Is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
    6. Proficiency in computer applications; and
    7. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Maintaining register of legal cases;
    2. Liaising with external counsel(s) handling County legal matters;
    3. Drafting pleadings and ensuring timely filing at court registries for cases handled internally;
    4. Doing initial case assessment and briefs on new or potential litigation matters;
    5. Ensuring that the discovery process goes on smoothly;
    6. Coordinating necessary pre-trial tasks;
    7. Taking part in witness preparation;
    8. Attending court as may be instructed to represent the County Government; and
    9. Any other duty as may be assigned by a competent authority.
